![]() page 2 | ![]() page 3 It's tempting to give a long and elaborate biography of this band, revisiting nearly 30 years of joyful chaos. After all, Yes have experienced considerable artistic and commercial success. But while they are quite proud of what they've achieved over the years, Yes are quite unwilling to rest on their laurels. So while we surely will enjoy some of the band's timeless classics this evening, we'll also witness the living, mutating, ever evolving organism that is Yes, as they continue to grow and change before our very eyes, and drive ever forward toward the twenty-first century. |
![]() page 4 JON ANDERSON "We're still playing toward the twenty-first century. That's still the dream," says Jon Anderson. For some, dreams remain the stuff of fantasy. For Jon, they become blueprints. From blueprints, they spring to life more often than not. Jon does not simply chase after dreams. He makes them reality. The means to this end is touring. Yes is a renowned studio band, but the stage is where they solidify, becoming more cohesive and stronger as a unit. This new Yes is just beginning their journey together. And there is no doubt that Jon will be leading the charge well into the twenty-first century. | ![]() page 5 |
![]() page 6 | ![]() page 7 STEVE HOWE "We're just now finding a new kind of Yes that hasn't existed before," says Steve Howe. "I wouldn't say that this is the Yes that just made Open Your Eyes. I think what we're discovering on stage is that there is another Yes that is being born, which is far more energetic and lively and full of the Yes fantasy dream. I am relieved that right from opening night, we've had all the ingredients. I've got a taste for touring. Touring is making us better musicians. We're working better together, we're writing better together, and we are arranging better. We are living up to the potential of this band." |
![]() page 8 BILLY SHERWOOD Billy Sherwood is anything but a newcomer to the band. His writing ability was apparent as far back as 1991, when he co-wrote one of the Union's most atmospheric songs, "The More We Live - Let Go," and "Love Conquers All," with Chris Squire. In concert, Billy adds great depth and flexibility to the vocal arrangements. As co-writer and co-producer of every track on Open Your Eyes, his sound and influence is readily apparent, but it is the collaboration with the other members of the band that he relishes. "All of the tracks were written by all of us. I don't know if it has been that way in Yes for a long time. I believe that the best way to make a Yes album is to get everyone's involvement, and have everyone participate. The album is produced by Yes as well, not by one individual. It's a collective effort. I'm happy to be involved with it on that level, because I believe this band could be rocking. Should be rocking. Yes has always been one of my favorite bands. It's always been in me. It's great to be invlove, because Yes' style of music feels very natural to me." | ![]() page 9 |

"It draws from the best of the classic Yes band and the eighties style of playing, but it really is something new." Squire has seen every phase of Yes - he is the one member to have been with the band on every album, and has come to be known as "the keeper of the flame" to the fans. Chris has always made Yes his top musical priority. When it came to making Open Your Eyes, Squire again put Yes first, skimming off a bit of the cream from his solo project, and bringing it to the band for a full Yes work up instead of holding it aside. "There is an indefinable magic that happens when this band is together," he confides. That Yes magic still moves Chris Squire, some thirty years later. | ![]() page 13 |

Everybody throws things into one big pot, and you get the seed of an idea, and take it to another level. The other members of the band start kicking in, and all of sudden, you have something that's a new, creative, driving force in Yes." The Open Your Eyes tour marks twenty five years with Yes. To hear him speak of playing live with the band might lead us to believe that being on stage is his ultimate Yes experience. "I've never felt as good in my life. The adrenaline is really pumping. It feels exhilarating." | ![]() page 15 |
![]() page 16 | ![]() page 17 IGOR KHOROSHEV Yes has a long-standing tradition of nothing short of musical genius behind the keyboards. That legacy makes it an especially difficult and challenging position to fill. It was Jon Anderson who brought Igor to the attention of the band after a friend had given him a tape of the keyboardist's work. "There was a first audition that I came to. I picked 'The Revealing Science Of God' to play," he explains. Obviously, the audition went quite well. An imminent tour further compounded the challenge that lay ahead. "I had 2 weeks to learn the history of Yes, nineteen songs, and record four more songs for the new album. I pulled it off." Born in Moscow, Igor grew up listening to Yes music. "Yes is one of the biggest bands in Russia. I can't wait to go play there. I've been the biggest fan of all. So I knew the music inside out. When I first met them, they all became regular people to me. Very friendly, nice, funny people. In many ways, they moderated me. They've got so much energy to spare that I'm just feeding off them every night." "It's very weird. I would be playing a song, like 'Soon,'and I would be crying as I'm playing it, because I remember listening to it in Moscow with my mom. So there are many strings attached to this particular band and the music itself, and it's just really a very, very magical touch for me. It's very special for me to be in this band - I'm in paradise." |
