Artie Tuesday, November 5, 2013 8:26 PM They did 2 shows in July 1975 w/StarshipTrooper 2nd night... Batt Campbell Travis, you're right, Yes did only one on the 13th in Pgh. They never did two arena shows here, although I was always curious as to if they could have filled it two nights. travis something is wierd, because it shows a 15th show in pittsburgh. i KNOW they played two night s in philly! travis they played a second night on the 15th and included starship trooper in the set. probably the most memorable yes show out of the 60+ attended MEL ROOT WOW, HAS IT REALLY BEEN 34 YEARS SINCE THIS WONDROUS SHOW. GRYPHON THE WARM UP BAND DID A GREAT JOB, ESPECIALLY THE FLUTE PLAYING AND POPEYE DANCE ON THEIR LAST SONG. THEN THERE WAS FIREBIRD SUITE AND SPECTRUM EXPLODED IN AN FRENZY UPROAR UNTIL THE BAND FIRED UP. WE WERE FIRED UP TOO, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS PHILLY POLICE PAT DOWN BEFORE ENTRY. JON, STEVE, AND NEWCOMER MORAZ WERE EXCELLENT. THE BAND PLAYED THEIR HEARTS OUT, CLOSE TO EDGE, GATES OF DELERIUM AND RITUAL IN ONE SHOW AND THE FINALE ROUNDABOUT. WE WOULD HAVE STAYED ALL NIGHT. THEN TO GENO'S FOR A LATE NIGHT CHEESESTEAK AND BACK TO ORIANNA & CAYUGA FOR A BEER AND MORE YES ON VINYL IN A BLACK LIGHT POSTER RIDDEN NORTH PHILLY BASEMENT. GOT A DIME! Bruce This was a wonderful Yes show, Patrick was the "new guy", but with Relayer to perform, and Close To The Edge & Ritual. I was in Heaven. Yes was a hit! David Barry Charlie must have seen Jethro Tull (as I did) in spring '75 at the Spectrum, for Carmen was the opening act there. That being said, Gyrphon did indeed open for Yes in Philly and were great. Glenn Leonard Carmen did not open this show, Gryphon did. Carmen opened for Tull in Philly about a month later. Ah, the 70s.... Garo I was very curious how Moraz would sound. Was terrific. Even though I really favor the Close To The Edge stuff, Relayer live is great, great stuff Charlie Nolan Yes did a brief tour in Dec 1974, and appeared at the spectrum in Phila.PA on Dec 14th. I was at this show, my first of 32 Yes shows attended and a great time and place to start! Carmen, a spanish Prog-Flamenco band opened and provided an interesting display of flamenco stomping and great playing. Yes came on at about 9:00 and played everything that appears on the boot, 'Stellar Attraction' plus 'Nous Sommes Du Soliel'. Patrick Moraz covered 'Close To The Edge' ok, but the real highlights were the Relayer pieces. 'Soundchaser' as an opener--all the Relayer tours featured this, and a PURE ENERGY song like that first, really set the pace! I remember Steve's pedal steel on 'And You And I', and 'To Be Over' --cosmic excelesior! I miss Patrick Moraz in Yes, and I miss 'Soundchaser' live. What an era. WHAT A BAND! |
