So long ago, I do remember that they opened with "Sound Chaser". They did the Relayer album, two songs from "Close to the Edge", And You and I, and Close to the Edge, and they finished up with "Ritual" . The encores were Round a bout and South Side of the Sky. The interesting part about the tour (at least from my point of view,) was, according to my ticket, the concert was originally supposed to take place on November 12th. It was postponed to December 17th for unknown reasons. And yes, the encore was played by both YES and GRYPHON. I remember being inspired. Gryphon was an intelligent rock band, with the keyboard player very, very good at Recorder. I couldn't however, figure out how the bassoon (?!) figured into "rock music" Alas, I was only 18 at the time and had limited vision.

I saw Yes play this live on the 1974 (?) tour with Gryphon as their warm-up band. It was in Minneapolis (I think). Jon Anderson announced this to be the last show of a very long tour, and the band was looking forward to getting home. Gryphon (Red Queen to Gryphon Three was their current album release) and Yes both put in outstanding performances, but the kicker was the second encore. (The first encore was Roundabout.)

Both Yes AND Gryphon jammed through South Side of the Sky!! Hard!!!

Not only was this one of my personal favorites, but the execution was stunning. Steve Howe trading blazing guitar riffs with Gryphon's Brian Gulliand on bassoon (who more than held his own). Moraz concentrated on piano and mellotron while Richard Harvey ripped on organ and moog. Gryphon's drummer (Dave ____) played with Anderson's percussion toys, their bass player helped him (no dual bass guitars here!). Graham Taylor, Gryphon's excellent guitarist played respectfull rythym guitar with a few great lead riffs thrown in. The execution overall was very energetic, relaxed with a "go for it - it's the last song of the last show of this tour" feeling. Extremely magical!!

Bye the bye.... many have asked if YES has done 'South Side of the Sky' in concert. The answer is yes. During this show, YES did it as an encore with their warm up act, Gryphon, joining them onstage.
