Amazing ! It was my first Yes concert and one of the best concert I've ever seen. Great musicians giving the best they can. The set list remains the same, i was amazed to see them play such complicated songs so perfectly and in a spontaneous way.
The audience : The Zenith is a big arena, and it was far from being full. I think we were less than 2000 people. As I'm 28 i thought i would be one of the yougest in the audience, but there was a bunch of 10 years old children with their parents having fun as much as us !
There were seats for everyone, and during the show everyone was sitting quietly and stand up for ovations at the end of each song. This way Yes knew which songs were the most appreciated.
Suddenly, in the beginning of "I've Seen All Good People" everyone stands up and rush to the stage, jumping, dancing and singing. Everyone stand up, and even Jon seemed to be surprised and was smiling like a kid ! It was a moment of pure emotion that lasts for the three following songs. I was in front of Steve Howe, unforgettable.
Jon : I was surprised to see he is not the "leader" on stage, as singers are usually, but he seemed to have a lot of fun. He sung perfectly, even if I think he avoids getting to high. He often go in the back of the stage to play with horns, bells and all kinds of strange instruments that add to the magic of yes music. He tried to talk with us but only few people understood english, so he made a lot of gesture. Strange guy, maybe not an earthling ?
Steve Howe : WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Very concentrate. He plays everything perfectly. It seemed that all the show was based on him and his guitar. He sats only 2 minutes during "The revealing..." and then get back on his feet and jumps while playing. His face looks so old and his playing is so perfect and fresh and full of "improvisations" (America) that this looks odd. By the way, his acoustic set is unbelievable. Note : He won the prize of the ugliest Tshirt. and the best jacket !
Chris Squire : A MONSTER ! HE IS THE SHOW MAN (with Howe). His solos are very impressive. Is he always moving like this ? He made the show. My wife call him the VIKING. Perfect.
Alan White : Well, we can't see him but from time to time we felt the big fat beat. The solo was perfect and the light show in the drums was magic.
Igor : He adds his personnal and beautiful touch to every songs, like a real new Yes member. Sadly, he had time to make a solo but what he did was not unforgettable. No standing ovation for him, but maybe next time, when he will be more self-confident...
Billy : He stayed on the right side. Even left the stage during songs. Nobody notice. No one heared his guitar and he could have stayed in his hotel room. Maybe he made a little backing vocal ? Maybe he is a good producer, but does he really write Yes music ? Anyway I think his place is not on the stage. and if he is the future of Yes then I'm afraid of the future ! The good point is that old members looked very young comparing to him !
All in all it was "FORMIDABLE", in french. We'll remember the music and the joy of YES !
