This is the correct song order: Firebird Suite Parallels I've Seen All Good People Close To The Edge Turn Of The Century Colours Of The Rainbow Wonderous Stories Tour Song And You And I Going For The One Flight Jam Awaken Starship Trooper Roundabout Mike Ha Ha Ha those are great coliseum memories. The key was getting near the doors they opened first. At KIss in 79 it was just before The who thing in Cincy and it was still festival , and I was carried off my feet by the throng because I was lucky enough to be sort of in front of one of 3 doors.Twenty odd doors but they opened three. You might think I'm full of it but we got there by noon because we were Kiss freaks, we snuck in through the photographers door in the office and hid on top of the food thing. We got busted by what looked like a roadie so he escorted us out. After maybe 4 hours scrunched up behind this sign.Rock and roll brother. Chris Lincoln Frank, you are spot on with your recollection of that Saturday night and the anticipation before the show. 'Open the fuckin' doors' indeed. Very Vancouver. I think they let people in at about 6:00 or 6:30. I was in a group of some 20 people that settled in ten rows or so up from the floor at about the blue line (near the stage) on the right hand side of the arena from the main entrance. Early highlight: I actually caught the frisbee that was being thrown around the arena in the long run-up to the opening act. Previous to this show I had never really heard much of the band, just Roundabout and All Good People a few times on radio. I was impressed that Donovan was on the bill - but completely unprepared for Yes. It sounds cliche maybe, but this was a genuine musical awakening for me. I didn't know the music well enough to remember clearly what I heard, but the effect was like getting lifted above everything else that had come before. I was 16, played the piano and had done some musical theatre...and what I experienced that night was so powerful and personal I became right away the biggest Yes fan I knew. Pat Crowe I experienced the same thing at the entrance for the Genesis Wind And Wuthering tour at the coliseum except when the doors opened I was lifted right off my feet by the crowd and carried through the doors to the searchers. If I could do it all over again....well...YOU KNOW IT! Frank Paul It was September 17th, 1977. It was a warm, late summar evening. It was still back in the days of festival seating, and it was a sold-out show, so I remember vividly everyone jockying for positions by the main entrance doors, and as the clock pushed closer to opening time, a steady chant of "open the fucking doors, open the fucking doors" arose and grew near riotous. At 14 years of age, I was wondering whether I was going to get caught up in something a little dangerous...it was so exciting. |
