Alan Monday, July 31, 2017 7:18 AM Just as a bit of correction, the venue was not Abilene Civic Center (which is in downtown Abilene and only holds about 1,200) but was at Taylor County Coliseum, in southeast Abilene adjacent to the fairgrounds, which does indeed hold around 7,000. Only about 1,500 people showed up for the show that night which made for a very intimate setting indeed. Also, and I have no proof of this, I believe I remember the band doing an impromptu ditty between main songs which they dedicated to us and called it Abilene. I feel like this must have been the germ of the song "Abilene" that was a UK b-side to a song from their next LP, with a lyric that seems to point to our sleepy, flat, dusty West Texas town: "Abilene, it's got a lot of what you don't need It's got lots of space, still nothing seems misplaced..." Vickie This was my first Yes concert, and it was mindblowing. It was the most amazing light show I ever saw, and I distincly remember the hush of the crowd at all the appropriate quiet moments of the show. Think "The Fish", or parts of "Close to the Edge"... It really was the kind of show that was so incredibly perfect, and the performances so spot-on and heart-felt, that it brought many people to tears, including me! Incredible memory! |
