Michael Traas This was my first Yes concert. Although I do wish I had caught them before, I have no complaints. This was an AWESOME show! They were originally supposed to play in Shreveport, LA - my home at the time, but changed to Jackson. I travelled with 2 friends - also my first out-of-town concert. It was truly a magical evening. The stage was impressively laid out with Steve stage right, Alan upstage center, Jon center (of course), Chris stage left and Rick far stage left with the most impressive set of keyboards I have seen live. The band were in very good spirits and every number was a shining testament to their abilities. Highlights: Close to the Edge, Awaken, and Starship Trooper (finale). And then the other highlight - getting invited to hang out with Jon after the show due to correspondence he'd had with my friends and their involvement with Self Realization Fellowship. The film graphics that accompanied many of the songs were awesome - and Parallels live (opening song) was just amazing. For much of the concert I was on the floor about 15' from the stage. A girl next to me was on her boyfriend's shoulders and graciously took a few pictures for me. They remain awesome reminders of the show. It has been thirty years so obviously some of the details have "pixelated", but it was a profound experience for me - and I am so glad I was there. It was also great to see Donovan who also seemed to be enjoying himself. It was my first time to see him live although I had grown up with his music. Intergalactic Laxative was a memorable song. |
