In 1977, it was very interesting indeed. The most important promoter in Spain at the time -Gay Mercader- announced in Spanish press that he would bring Yes to Spain for the very first time. I was 10 y.o at the time but yet I was a Yes fan -really-; I remember reading a piece in one of my mother's gossip magazines with a picture of Yes on lake Geneva with a headline like this : Gay Mercader rejoins Yes band to get them to play in Spain". Bullshit!!!. The fact is that the band was supposed to play and the Tourbook included the Spain gigs on it , including dates for 5th December Barcelona, 7-8 December Madrid. The band never got to Spain. Tickets were never sold, and there was no information about it in any media. I've told about this matter with Jon Anderson several times, and only thing I've ever got from him is that : "You know, promoters are a very greedy people...". I guess the Spanish promoter didn't came to a sucessful agreement with the band's manager -a question of money- and that's all. Steve Howe has a different version of the subject claiming that there was no right venues to Yes at the time, except the Bullfight arenas -you know, toros...- and he refused to play in that places were animals are being brutally sacrified. I don't believe this version, just because in 1977 big shows were coming to Spain , such Genesis "The lamb lies Down On broadway" or ELP, and certainly there was room for them... So I think that the Anderson's version is the right one : a matter of money.
