I have a boot of this show. Holy cowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. The Rick Wakeman solo is the most amazing, he adds some kind of crazy circus music with the moog. He only did that for the first 6 or maybe 7 shows of this tour. He then modified the solo from time to time up until 6/30/79. Anyway, the rest of the show is the most amazing everrrrrrrrrrrrrr, as is the rest of this tour through 6/30/79. CASE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY BLOW EVERONE AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYONE IS A BACKUP BAND TO THESE 5 IMORTALSSSSSSSSSSSSSS (AS WE, HERE WE CAN BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. First show ever with Don't Kill The Whale. Unfortunately they removed Release Release, although the 1978 & 1979 versions of Don't Kill The Whale are awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A GREAT EXPIERENCE!!! MYSELF AND MY FRIEND DOMINIC TRAVELLED FROM NYC ON THE METRONORTH TRAIN FROM THE BRONX TO SEE THIS SHOW.ON THE WAY WE DECIDED WE WOULD GET RID OF OUR TICKETS IN SEARCH OF AFRONT ROW SEAT.NO SOONER THAN WE ARRIVE ON THE PAVILLIION MUCH TO MY SURPRISE A SCALPER OFFERS US 1ST ROW TICKETS AT THE BARGAIN PRICE OF 60 BUCKS FOR A PAIR.ONLY MY SECOND TIME SEEING YES THIS TRULY WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. CHRIS SQUIRES FACE IS EMBEDDED IN MY MEMORY AS HE PRANCED AROUND IN HIS ZEBRA ATTIRE.WHEN THE MEDLEY ROLLED INTO SOON THE LIGHT MYSELF AND FRIEND SEEMED LIKE WE WERE THE ONLY ONES AROUND US WHO KNEW IT WAS THE GATES. ALSO THE CIRCUS OF HEAVEN WAS A TRIP.ONE OF MY FAVORITE YES SHOWS AND EXPIERENCES. EVEN AS I WRITE ABOUT THIS 38 SHOWS AND 28 YEARS LATER.

This was the first YES show I attended (age 16) and nothing I have seen so far by YES has surpassed it. I've been to so many shows in so many venues over the years (too many to count)and the first concert is still the best. I agree with Mr. Jarboe's assessment of Siberian Khatru. The band was fabulous and Steve Howe played like a god. I can still remember seeing him light it up at the end of the song. Rick Wakeman said in a radio interview after the show that it was the best that the band had ever played. It was flawless, full of energy, and truly cosmic. I bet Rick still remembers that show. I know that I do.

The yes show from New Haven on 9/3, 1978 was perhaps one the best yes performances I have ever seen out of some 60+ yes shows I've attended over the years. They opened with the best Siberian Khatru where Steve Howe's solo leads were truely incredible. Other great highlights from this show included Don't Kill the Whale, On the Silent Wings of Freedom, Awaken, and the encores of All good People and Roundabout. Yes played the same songs on the 9/4 show but the energy of the 9/3 show surpassed that of the second New Haven show. During their stay over in New Haven, I had the chance to meet Rick and Jon during the day and join them later for drinks after the show. This was the beginning of a relationsionship and friendship I've enjoyed with Jon for many years.
