Keane Arase took dozens of great photos of the June 8, 1979 "Tormato" tour show. For some reason he identified it as the "Drama" tour, even though some people have incorrectly "corrected" him to tell him it was the "Going For The One" tour.

He starts the introduction to his photo album like this:

"I'm not sure what possessed me to take the Nikon to a Yes concert. I had no credentials, I just had a ticket and a 35mm camera around my neck, and walked in. No one stopped me, and back then, no one cared."

This was my first (and only) Yes concert. I was 16 and rapidly becoming a big Yes fan. I can't say I'm a huge fan anymore, but I can say this was one hell of a concert experience which brings back great memories.

I recall some clowns dropping M-80s from some upper seats onto the lap of some poor soul just prior to the beginning of the show. I was sitting on the ground floor about 20 feet from the guy getting his lap blasted. They might have thrown a few more during the show as well. Interesting -- others report M-80 blasts on the second or third night as well. What was with the M-80s? I never been to any other concert before or since with that crap going on.

I had never heard Awaken before this concert -- indeed, I originally thought that Jon was singing "We can take the message" (as opposed to "Awaken gentle mass touch"). When it started I made my way from my rather poor ground-floor seat up to the stage. I was standing in an aisle at the front row -- nobody bothered me --and everything about that song, about that performance, sent me into a peak experience (without the use of drugs). It was magic. Absolutely unbelievable.

I also recall listening to a Chicago FM radio station (The Loop?) the next night for a live stereo simulcast of Yes at the Amphitheater. It didn't have the same magic -- I suppose I was trying to relive all what I experienced the night before.

The first of 2 nights I would see YES this time around.Does anyone know and can verify this for me: was this the night that Rick Wakeman has mentioned in certain interveiws that the motor of the rotating stage broke down, and they "borrowed" people from the first row to manually turn the stage from underneath?They seemed to have some equipment problems a few times throughout the night.At one point, there was a loud bang and I clearly saw Chris Squire grimly look back over his shoulder towards something or someone.Through the binoculars I could tell he was bit concered at what the noise was.That's how it seemed anyway.
YES played a bit more of a steamlined setlist this time around.But the show was still awesome, despite the few equipment gliches.One of the memoriable moments was when they first took the stage, Jon Anderson stepped up to his Spot in the center,and looked up towards our area in the upper seating level(not everyone was to their seats yet in our section, so my freinds and I were a raving cheering group that he seem to notice). Of course ,we started Yelling "ANDERSON!",and HE kind of jestered towards us, then Smiled and waved.That was very cool!!! This took place during the opening theme, by the way.The program from this tour is my favorite,and YES,I still have it to this day.A Great night!
