This was indeed a great show. I'm surprised no one mentioning that it was 'In the Round', which made it even more unique!

I saw it with some friends and an uncle who drove down from Tampa and was the biggest Yes fan I'll ever know!

Chris, You took the words right out of my mouth. This was the last real YESSHOW. This show was better than every show from 1997 to 2004 put together. There are no words in any language to describe this show, other than beyond comprehension!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of the setlists from 1997 to 2004 might be better, but the playing of the songs were so dressed down it sometimes seemed like imposters trying to play YES music. If the symphonic tour in 2001 sounded like 6/30/79 I wouldn't be here writing this. I would have check into an asylum in a state of shockkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!

It is so good to see my thoughts written out for me by others in attendance that night. My brother and I were fairly new Yes fans at the time and, being from New Jersey, we had seen Yes only at Madison Square Garden starting with the GFTO tour and had done so in June of 1979. MSG - a huge venue, and always a huge event. While on vacation at my grandparents in Ft. Lauderdale two weeks later, my folks mentioned that Yes was playing nearby. We ran and got tickets and were out to the Hollywood Sportatorium - may she rest in peace (a place that will always have a fond place in my heart because of this concert) - Out in the middle of nowhere. We had a straight shot from our crappy seats towards the stage and took off for the front as the house lights dropped. Pressed against the stage exterior for the first three songs, the lax security had us sit in place until they could move us all out. I love the guys in Yes dearly, but they have never come close to the Arena rock days that ended that night. This was the curtain call. I have seen them every chance since just to get a glimpse of what I saw this night. I miss that energy. As incredible as they still are, especially after all of these years, people who see them today and who don't understand the fuss don't know what they missed. It is fitting that this concert took place in 1979 because when the 70's ended, so did real concerts and real radio, and some semblance of exploration on the part of the greater bands. I know Yes had to be tired on this night, but they played like a boxer going the distance. My only wish is that a real video from this tour could emerge. The Philly Video gives a hint of what it was like and will probably have to do.

GOOD JOB TOM SAMPSON. THAT PRETTY MUCH SUMS IT UP. TOTAL PANDAMONIUM BEYOND COMPREHENSION. I STILL HAVEN'T RECOVERED FROM 6/30/79, AND I DON'T THINK I EVER WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SINCE 6/30/79 I HAVE SEEN YES 46 TIMES IN 21 PLACES AND THE ONLY ONE TO COME JUST WITHIN 1,000,000,000 LIGHT YEARS OF 6/30/79 WAS 1991. ALL THE OTHERS, WELL THE MELODIES WERE THERE, BUT 1,000,000,000,000TH OF THE MUSICIANSHIP & SOUND SYSTEM OF 6/30/79!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! This show changed my life. How? I found I connected with the music, sound and lights on a very deep level. I found that I could get totally immersed in a concert. I did not want it to end. Neither did others. It was so loud from clapping and cheering after Roundabout, the encore, that it was deafening. Because the stage set-up was In-the-Round there was an aisle way that was cordoned off from the seating. One guy THREW himself over the runway in some feeble attempt to stop the band from leaving. There was no intent to hurt. He did not want it to stop. It was a wired, electric, ecstatic feeling arena wide. The band skipped FL on the GFTO tour. This place was SOLD OUT my Yes friends. I saw Yes in Birmingham 6 days before in the 8th row. It was a revelation. Now I had 5th row seats. I have seen this band 18 times since trying to recreate this immersed feeling. The Union tour in 1991 came close and so did this year in Tampa (2004 - I finally saw Ritual live and Squire smoked it!). But I agree with the other reviewers who posted here - this show was the end of an era and possibly the end of the super powerful Yes band live.(Trivia note: I have the program from the tour and they were off to Sao Pauolo, Brazil for 2 dates after they finished in the states.) Going to see them in Niagara 8/31. No OTSWOF though but Arriving UFO was added to this leg and so was a synthesized, computerized sound for a piece of White' s drum solo. What a show. God bless them and all Yes fans! Peace.

Some people say that the 1976 tour with the lazers & 3 headed monster may have been the greatest tour ever, but I can tell you that nothing, nothing,nothing compares to the 1979 tour. The WURM at this show was like standing in a field with 1,000,000,000 spaceships landing on your head. I mean it was the sickest ever. I thought
people were going to hide under their seats. It was truly like
being invaded. The wurms in 1978 are beyond belief. The ones from
1979 are beyond the point of pandamonium. Nothing YES has done
since 6/30/79 has even come close. As the reviewer says below,
it really was the last "real" YESSHOW. I saw the 2002 tour in a
small theatre. During the WURM I was thinking to myself that if this
was the only wurm I knew it would be great, but I realized it was
a piece of garbage compared what i'm used to. They just don't go off
on the amazing tangents that they used to.

Yours Is No disgrace

This is the bottom line. The other day I listened to a tape of
this show that I did attend. The people that are writing reviews
that the shows from 1997- 2003 are the greatest.
ie; Some guy puts in the reviews section of YESNET that he saw the
RELAYER TOUR & that the 2002 show seemed just as good. There are
many examples of this. These people are diluted. The shows in the
1970's make the 1997-2003 look like a piece of crud. PERIOD.
I know it's a miracle to see them now, but come on they don't even
come close. IE: The STARSHIP TROOPER from 6/30/79 is better than all
the STARSHIP TROOPERS they did on the MASTERWORKS TOUR,
SYMPHONIC TOUR, & the 2003 tour put together. This is not up for debate.
Plus the sound system they use in 1997-2003 is horrible
compared to the 1970's. I saw the 2002 show at RADIO CITY IN NY.
I walked up to the front during The Revealing Science Of God.
To my HORROR!!!!!! you couldn't hear it, it was like listening
to music through a cotton ball. In 1977 if I walked up to the front
I would have been blown away by sight & sound. Now i'm blown away
by how bland they are now.

This is the last "real" Yesshow. This was the greatest show of all
time. Case Closed. I''''ve seen YES 38 times since this show.
All of them added up together don''''t equal this one.
The song set for the 2001 symphony tour might be better, but the
sound system & musicianship don''''t even come close.
1991 "In The Round" also wasn''''t as good, even though it was great.
From 1979 to the present i''''ve been talking about 6/30/79.
After getting the show on tape from some friend & playing
it for some people I know. They said "now we understand
what you''''ve been talking about. All you have to do is listen
to the Starship Trooper or And You And I from Keys To Ascension,
then listen to 6/30/79 or any other show from 1978 or 1979.
It''''s like comparing a Volks Wagen to the space shuttle!!

I have a complete recording of the show. The most notable thing about my recording are the idiots who recorded it. One of the guys who recorded it keeps yelling out "Sound Chaser" periodically throughout the entire show. He gets pretty obnoxious about it. At one point someone yells to the guy "Shut up down there". This only makes the guy scream louder. The guys also make other idiodic comments throughout; "Say something about Fripp" sticks out in my mind. They also "Boo" and laugh. Considering that this was the last real Yes show, these guys totally missed the significance of the show. I hope the jerks who recorded it listened to their comments and were thoroughly ashamed by it.

The performance was good, though the 'Tour Song' was really weak. 'The Fish\Perpetual Change\Soon' and 'Awaken' were high points. A significant and yet sad show, considering it was the last Yes show. It was the end of an era.
