I too was at the concert when he fell through. We sat behind the stage so didn’t know if anyone in the front noticed.
It was so ironic that he fell during “It can happen” and we were trying to figure out whether or not it was planned. But it became apparent that is was a complete accident because we saw them again in August at SPAC in Saratoga and he did not fall.

Jon Anderson fell through an open floor grate during the beginning of It Can Happen. I sat front row Sec.2 and saw everything clearly. I still have the $12.50 ticket stub! Roberts review was correct on how it happened. He was down for a long time and the band kept playing the instrumentals for like 10 minutes. Tony Kaye left his keyboard and went over to the opening on the stage floor. Then while playing, Squire went over to the opening looking down it. Then Squire nodded to everyone to keep playing the instrumentals. It lasted about 9-10 minutes! When Anderson eventually came back on stage, he was real woozy and unbalanced on his feet. He was hurting bad. But he carried on for the whole show like a trooper or should i say like a Starship Trooper. Saw them live since the 70'S and this was the best line-up of YES.

I remember that Jon fell through an open grate in the floor. The stage was sort of set up like that warehouse flooring. (You can see it on 9012Live. He was stepping backwards and just dropped like a rock. The band appeared surprised when the vocal part came and went without Jon singing. I remember Trevor and Chris looking down the square opening in the floor. I really thought Jon was hurt. It seemed like it took forever for him to come back up. Curiously, my ticket stub reads February 9, 1984 for the Centrum in Worcester, MA. Apparently that date was cancelled due to Trevor's ruptured spleen (see Feb. 9, 1984 date). I guess the concert was rescheduled for May 12, 1984.

This was without a doubt out of the 25 or so concerts I have seen one of the greatest shows ever. I still talk about this show from time to time.I saw them again at the centrum in 91 on the union tour. but this was the best.The band performed flawlessly, trevor rabin was only like 23 at the time. I remember the lasers hitting some kind of mesh hanging from the arena roof and making laser hearts in the air. I also remember instead of a warm up band, they played looney tunes on a screen behind the stage

Jon actually fell off the stage at the end of Owner of a Lonely Heart. You can hear it on the tape if you listen closely. Trevor tried to sing the lead on It Can Happen but gave up after a while. I think the guys were laughing about the irony of the lyrics, i.e., "it can happen to you, it can happen to me." When Jon came back out, he looked quite sheepish and was obviously hurting but still carried on with the show.

This was a graduation present from my girlfirend at the time. We had seats just stage left and were blown away by the show! Even after all those dates they guys played crisp and clean and with tons of energy. I, also remember Jon falling through the hole in the flooring it happened right in front of us. Tony saw it all and immediately rushed over and down the hole. After a few false starts by Chris and Trevor, I believe Chris took over with a solo(perhaps Amazing Grace/Whitefish).
When Jon came back up he waved and got a standing O.
Starship Trooper closing the show, the big Yes logo coming down...it is still very vivid in my memory. Just plain awesome!

The band started playing "It Can Happen" and all of a sudden Jon just went down through the stage. Chris and Trevor are looking at each other like "where did he go ?" and just continue playing the intro to the song over and over again. Trevor started to sing the song and then stopped when someone realized Jon fell through the stage. I'll never forget Chris, bent over, looking down in the hole while playing his instrument.
