John Bent This was my first time seeing Yes, when I was 16, and all I had at the time was Yessongs. I remember John Martyn coming out and shouting, "Let's turn those f-king lights off!" Alas, I'd not heard the Tales album before-hand, but the show still blew me away. Steve and Chris were into it, big time! Tales is still my favorite album, and Yes is still my favorite group. Jeff Smith The audience, all abuzz about Yes, talked throughout opening act John Martyn's set, making him so angry he cursed the crowd from the stage. Later, overwhelmed by the massive amounts of new music they were hearing, portions of the audience chanted for "Roundabout" during the breaks after "The Remembering" and "The Ancient." As for myself, I was in heaven -- not only was I getting to hear the entire album live (I had received it for Christmas and so had had seven weeks to learn it) but I was sitting about ten chairs from Eddie Offord; once he got the sound locked in to his satisfaction, it was like I was wearing headphones (to the extent that Rick let out one piercing sustained note that seemed to enter my left ear and exit my right). |
