This was my very first YES concert. I was entering my sophomore year in high school. I was turned on to the group the previous spring by a friend who played me The Yes Album; but it was a chance purchase of (of all things) an eight-track of Yesshows that made me a lifelong devotee of the group. While they only performed "Soon" from the live set, I was still ecstatic at the show. Being a concert neophyte, I kept yelling out their names during their solos; a couple of older guys in front of me on the lawn kept turning around, hoping I'd shut up. I remember them doing "Gimme Some Lovin" in the encore, which is not nearly as ridiculous as when they did "Purple Haze" on the Talk tour. This wasn't my favorite show (they were on the precipice of the "arena rock" period that they subsequently succumbed to for a number of years---actually, come to think of it, they've always played arenas), but it was my first. I would see them at Merriweather in 2002---that was probably my favorite show. By the way, the set list for this show was the same as the rest of this leg of the tour. P.S. I'm a big fan of this site. I've wasted a lot of time drooling over the set lists they did in the 70s.
