Zinabre Monday, September 28, 2020 8:44 PM line up 01/17/1985: Alceu Valença/Elba Ramalho/Al Jarreau/YES(headliner) Steven Shinder About a third of the TV broadcast of this show is on YouTube. There are five songs from the concert. I will review each of them. "Hearts": This is the only footage I've seen of Yes playing "Hearts". Jon seems really into it. There is a face-to-face moment between Trevor and Chris. The agressive part of the song is played longer. I can't believe this song wasn't on 9012Live! "Changes": There's a part of the song where Jon sings a little bit of Trevor's lyrics. After the song, Jon tells the audience that they are about to play "And You And I", so the setlist on this webpage is a bit wrong. "Owner of a Lonely Heart": The crowd seems really into this song. You can see people dancing in the audience. "It Can Happen": There are some sounds on this version that aren't on 9012Live, which makes it interesting. "City of Love": I love Jon's introduction. He screams "City of Love!" a couple of times before the song begins. The movements that Chris and Trevor make during the song are pretty much like on 9012Live. Trevor also plays in front of the crowd. During the last 2 1/2 minutes, the people in the crowd raise their arms and yell out after every "doo, doo". Tony Kaye also adds a little solo at the end. When the song is ending, Jon says "Music is magic!" a few times, reflecting the lyrics to "Our Song". Eduardo Paulo For the first time YES was coming to do a concert in Brasil!!!! An unforgettable show, as much for brazilian fans as for the band, 'cause YES never had had so big publics in the band whole career, circa of 220.000 to 250.000 fans in January 17, and 300.000 to 400.000 in January 20 (600.000 was commented, but not confirmed). Rock In Rio was a great festival realized in Rio de Janeiro, between January 10 to 20, in a open field (a Shopping Center nowadays) Rock in Rio had all kinds of bands and musicians, and YES was the main attraction, being the last band to handsel in the Festival (17/01) and being responsable to do the closing show of the event (20/01), with lasers and fireworks! Between the bands that played in this Festival, is good to remember: AC/DC, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Queen, James Taylor, Al Jarreau, Go Go's, Nina Hagen, Rod Stewart, and many others, where YES was the most waited band, and maybe, the one who brought more people to see its show, many fans who followed YES in '70's, and thousands of new fans that was beginning to know YES through the OOALH success. Another interesting point: in those shows, Jim Capaldi (ex-drummer of Traffic), which in that time was living in Rio de Janeiro, was invited to join YES, in a special song. Capaldi thanked the invite done by Yesmen, but said that that night had to be a YES night, and only attended the show, together with thousands of people.
