Almir Octavio (Curitiba - Brazil) I was just a kid with 15 years old and I still remember seeing on my tv screen that amazing show among others greats bands (Whitesnake, Queen, Scorpions, Ozzy...). Until that time, Yes was an obscured band for me. I loved that show so much that I became fan immediatly. I believe that moment will be on my mind for the rest of my life. I felt so much cause was the end of Rock In Rio... But, that show changed my life forever. It will never be a moment like that in music history or Yes history or my personal life history... Eduardo Paulo Was the farewell of YES and that marvelous Festival Rock n Rio, 10 days of dreams realized, 'cause it was a very special moment in Brasil, the end of a 30 years dictatorship, a new president (who died 3 months later), so was a incredible moment to Brasil!!! And YES did a superb closing show. It started 1 hour late because of stage building, which was made in front of 300.000 fans (good to remember that Rock In Rio had 3 similar stages, which were rotated at the end of each band show), but YES's stage was the most difficult and detailed to build, and show started around midnight, with many lasers at the opening (Leave It Remix Instrumental), when 300.000 people begun to scream YES..YESS..YESSS, was a great finale for a great dream realized, to be able to see YES in Brasil.!! The show had the same set list of January 17, including shows of lasers by Rio de Janeiro skies, where 90125 logos danced within the music of YES!!! was a glorification final for a great Festival...a show that I'll never forget, and I know that no Yesman will also forget. The time [Yes] stayed in Brasil, when Kaye and Rabin spent the days playing tennis, White meeting his friend Gilberto Gil (a famous brazilian musician), Jon Anderson walking by the city with Jennifer and Squire always in good mood and joking!!! After Rock In Rio, YES went to Argentina and Uruguai, but in February Chris Squire cameback to Brasil and stayed one more week in Rio de Janeiro to know the famous Carnival, where he was photographed by dozens of magazines, always embraced to a blondie and a brunette!! Just to complete, YES shows in Rock In Rio were transmited alive, about 45 minutes on January 17 (from YIND to Kaye's solo) and 50 minutes on January 20 (from Kaye's solo on to Roundabout), but there's a video (very rare) with 125 minutes from the show of January 20, from which was made the sources of a new boot cd, including from Leave It Remix Instrumental to part of Starship Trooper, so, much more complete than the TV version. Another curiosity, Tony Kaye played in Rock In Rio wearing a t-shirt from FLAMENGO, a famous brazilian soccer team. By chance, Alan White in the official UNION picture is wearing a Flamengo t-shirt too, and I stll don't understand why Alan White was wearing that t-shirt on Union photos.
