I was in the military stationed in Mt Clements (just up the road from Detroit). I was able to attend this show and was blown away that they did all 4 sides of TALES. Needless to say, it was a great experience. I of course managed to find a recording which is a nice audience. Sadly, as we all know, there are no complete soundboard or FM broadcasts of the entire 4 sides. I sure wish there was at least one complete high-quality recording. The set was over the top and the band was brilliant.

This concert was the very first large scale concert I ever attended. I was 15 and I have some great memories of it, though they are fading with time. The band was excellent and this show cemented my love for their music, I have since enjoyed Yes live several times. I remember being blown away by the lighting and the staging, Alan's drum "kit" and Ricks 11 or 12 keyboards. I also remember the air being thick with certain aromas. Our seats were in the front row of the "tier C" balcony pretty much straight from the stage and it afforded a great view of not only the stage but the audience. Cobo was a great venue with outstanding acoustics for it's size becaue it it had a full wall behind the stage and an acoustic tile ceiling so there was a lot less bouncing of sound. I saw many a great show at Cobo, including a couple of other Yes shows, and the shows that resulted in Bob Seger's Live Bullet album, but this one will always be special, like a first love. Cobo is still there but unfortunately the Palace in Auburn Hills gets all the action, even though it is a horrible sounding barn, it holds almost twice as many people.

We attended the feb. 28th show at cobo hall and as we walked into the hall we bought a few items. A t-shirt, Yes button, program and two posters [ Tales album cover and a Yes logo ] but sadly the program and button are all that remain. the show itself was really an indurance test as they played all of " close to the edge " and all 4 sides of " tales " . the staging was beautiful with the roger dean motif and the band was very tight. the encore was roundabout but i'm almost sure they did starship trooper as well [ i'm not so sure but i'd almost swear they did ].alan white's drum solo was the point where the audience went crazy. it looked like a giant beetle was taking away[ i'm a sucker for props ] and it really was visually a huge moment. all in all it was a great show and i knew then that no one could touch them as being the most serious musicians in rock. i am a musician myself and trust me it is wonderful to see talent above your own level so that you can strive for that and they are always getting better so the bar is always being raised[ damn it !!!! ]
