This was my first YES concert...and my 19th birthday. Several friends bought me a ticket as a present. To this day it's one of THE BEST presents ever. It was called the Convention Center at that time...general admission, open floor seating. John Martyn was a fabulous opening act. I seem to recall flashes of "lightning" prior to YES taking the stage. Incredible concert, as others have described. Life-changing really. My other indelible memory is that after the show we went to the soundboard and chatted with...EDDIE OFFORD! Needless to say I became a Yesfan for life. Saw them many times over the years with another highlight in 1991. I was the winner of the "Yes in LA" contest on Rockline and was flown out to be in the studio with them on the show, and then attend the Union concert at the Forum. Highlight of that has to be hanging in the bar downstairs before the show and meeting Tony Kaye and Trevor Rabin. It sounds cliche'd, but YES has been the soundtrack of my life.

Got to Louisville early in the day and went to the venue to see what was happening. What was interesting, I was able to wander in and I heard some of the band practicing onstage. I think it was Howe, Squire and White. The tune they were practicing was absolutely frenetic and I had never heard it before. I didn't figure it out until later in '74 when Relayer was released. They were practicing Sound Chaser. How cool is that?

The TFTO show that night was phenomenal! I mean, what else can you say??? The integration of the Roger Dean stage props that worked with the show and the execution of the music was beyond description. My friends and I were doing some interesting mind altering substances that night and that just heightened the experience all the more. I think somebody mentioned an out of body experience in one of these reviews...... Well, yeah! I can go along with that! :-))))

i was on tour with a show band when topographic was released
I think i left my body during the topo songs
which are to this day my favs

This was an awesome visual and sound experience. I missed "The Revealing Science of God" too, but "Ritual" and the rest more than made up for it. This was the first roll-out of all that cool, lighted (and some animated) stage stuff that just added to the other worldly trip the music took you on. I can remember the days when you could see a half dozen concerts a month too - today you'd have to take out a second mortgage to do the same. "Tales" was no "Close to the Edge", and it is the least fave of a lot of people, but I dug the shit out of it. Just couldn't get enough of these guys. All good memories.

This was the first Yes concert I ever attended.

The band didn't play "Revealing Science of God," though I wish they had. I never saw them perform that song until the OPEN YOUR EYES tour.

Oh, yes, to remember the days when even a scalped ticket was just $10!
