I attended the Cincinnati Gardens show and instantly became a lifelong fan........Alan White shared a comment about this show (at a drum clinic he put on in Clearwater, Florida around 1990)......

He stated that in his opinion "the Cincinnati Tales concert was the only TALES concert THAT WAS PERFECTLY PERFORMED" and he was firm and happy to share this memory..

..everything appeared and sounded PERFECT

..I can appreciate a previous review above where the fan said the show was mesmerizing and like the best DREAM he ever had.....I couldn't agree more !!!!!!

I saw this tour in Montreal (Feb./74) , my first Yesshow , and it was amazing. But I was also mesmerised by John Martyn's opening , and he did sound like he was playing multiple guitars at the same time. It's too bad some of the opening acts weren't recorded as well , because the thought of Martyn's opening is still vividly etched in my mind today.

My first concert ever.Even though the Gardens is horrible for sound the show came across better than later experiences. Of course I was right down in front.

This room sounded very live...too live and reverby. Yes had a Quad sound system and I remember The Mini Moog in And You And I shooting all the way to the rear of the room. Steve played great solos in Siberian Khatru and Close to the Edge - I wish he played with that spirit and sound now; I still have a cassette tape of the show. They did not play the Remembering or Starship Trooper. Tales was magical music, and I was disappointed that the Remembering was cut out, as I heard Yes do Remembering at the 2/1974 Pittsburgh show which had great vocals and Rick actually played the Orchestrated parts well. The band seemed generally unhappy in demeanor though, yet still had so much to offer from their musical inertia. Jon barked at the crowd to move back at one point as folks were crowding the stage area. Jon seemed fatigued and cranky at both Pittsbugh and Cincinnati shows. In Pittsbugh Jon replied: "we'll play as long as you want us to" after some yahoos kept yelling out "roundabout" during the Tales music. Squire played consistently great throughout and had good sound considering the venue. White seemed too heavy handed at times - and I was really missing Bruford's musicality, although White played very well on Close to the Edge stuff and during Ancient and Ritual he had some moments. The band had magical musical energy that was the very element that bands today are clueless about because they don't REALLY know music or what it takes to be in a band like Yes, then again not many ever did! With all this said, the Tales tour remains the most remarkable musical experience even considering seeing Mahavishnu, Chick Corea, Genesis, Gentle Giant, ELP, Tull, Weather Report etc..., and notwithsatnding the Cleveland Orchestra....!

I really can't write a review - of this show - i was there with my brother and our next door neighbor - i recorded it - and took pictures...but all i remember was that it was deafeningly loud - and when we left the arena I was very very disoriented; my dream had been realized - I had dreamed about being front row - right in front of Steve Howe - and we came early (it was general admission seating), so that part of the dream did come true.
But the rest of it? Wasn't particularly fulfilling for me. It was so loud that i couldn't enjoy the music I loved so very much...

PS - the setlist posted here isn't correct; the Remembering was not played - and I'm pretty sure there were no encores - maybe Roundabout- but if they'd played 'starship trooper' i think i would remember that -
it was one of my favorites, ya' know?

that we needed to be quiet before "TRSOG".
it *was* a bit rowdy w/fireworks going off...

john martyn blew us away w/(i'm guessing)
his echoplexed guitar performance.

The concert was really great. Steve Howe introduced one of the performances with great Telecaster sounds, like a pedal steel.

John Martyn was spectacular. He sounded like he was playing 5 guitars.
