I always have a fond spot for this venue. Through the years I've made the trek from Niagara Falls, Toronto and NYC to see Yes, ELP and John Denver there.
This show was the first of them and I was concerned about how the band was going to be situated on stage. I had seen Yes earlier in Buffalo and Toronto "In the Round" and didn't know what to expect. Basically the band was split in half and the stage looked quite cool.
It was a bloody hot day too! I remembering walking from our crap hotel to the venue sweating like hogs and quaffing Genny's. My buddy Steve had a holster shaped arsenal lined with 8-9 cans which at the time thought was the coolest thing in the world. Amazing what constitutes cool when you're fresh out of college and woefully unemployed.
The show itself was better than the earlier ones I had seen. I think it was due to the immediacy of the venue. So much closer to the band this time. As the sun went down things cooled and we were fired up.
Funny thing happened after the show. My friend Digger Dan bought a half cooked chicken from the grocery store on the way back to our crap hotel. In his litness, he chowed on the foul poultry and a big carton of chocolate milk. Well, an hour later he was up yakking for the remainder of the night and all morning. Dumb Bastard!!
