If you heard 'Close to the Edge', you were probably at the April 12, 1973 Oklahoma City show, not this one.

I was at this show. You know, so many years gone by, but what little I do remember, to this day I will never forget. This show was the very first concert I had ever attended. My brother and his best friend took me, thank goodness my parents made him responsible for me and he HAD to take me.

I faintly remember the stage, and of course the smell. I don't think I will ever forget the smell!! The stage was draped with the most unusual decorations I had ever seen. From the opening of the "traditional classical music" Stravinsky's Firebird, I was completely overtaken. Never had I heard such beautiful melodies that seemed to be so well thought out. I was just beginning to experience music at this age and I can say that listening to those melodies that night is what molded and changed my life. From that point on I knew I had to do something with music.

Close to the Edge was the most incredible thing I had ever heard. Watching Wakeman, cape and all, play all the stacked keyboards was a image still etched in my mind. I stood amongst many listeners on the floor smoking pot, screaming, yelling..etc..but, I stood there sober and completely overtaken by the melodies. Such controlled soaring lines that still convince me today that these musicians were "DIFFERENT" then those in the genre at that time.

I did go to other concerts after this attendance. I went to Grand Funk, Grateful Dead, and a few others. I can honestly say that I walked out before they were even finished. Since then, I have attended every Yes show that has come to Oklahoma. Three times in the past 12 years they have cancelled, but, I still await another show.
