one of the problems with seeing yesshows after 40 years is the setlist. with so much to draw from, somebody goes home with regrets.well not me. the band played "tempus figit", and "machine messiah" to perfection after 27 years. and when was the last time anybody heard "astral traveller" ???. that probably wouldn't appeal to supposed yes fans. anyway the new members did themselves well. oliver played close to the vest; not at all like his father (who is?), buthe sounded great on trooper, close to the edge and and you and i.benoit had lots of energy, jumping around, and sounding mysteriously like jon.no drop off there. as usual, steve was on fire. don't be fooled by the "old professor" appearance. chris and alan are solid as a rock. yeah, maybe the show was a tad too short. but well worth it. hope they come back here soon.but who knows???

YesFans - the South Florida stop @ Hollywood Hardrock was pretty good by YesShow standards; any time a YesShow's in your area, you gotta go. Yes, the stage budget is cut back but it's clean, it's imaginative and still pretty damn creative, great use of lights and the fog machines are back for at least 3 dreamy sequences. Good clean sound, sitting far enough back to enjoy the entire stage & light show show with good binoculars is great! I missed the Drama Tour and to see a few of those songs performed live that you've never seen before is worth any trip - you'll notice Steve & Chris with guitars I've never seen them play on those songs and throw in a great Astral Traveler and a bonus of Steve Howe playing 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' what's everyone bitching about? Everyone passes their prime.

Anytime you can see 3, maybe 4 of the true Yes troupe on stage, anytime you get to see Steve Howe play his Les Paul, the steel Guitar, and that clamped/mounted metal mandolin from Close-to-the-Edge and on this tour, Roundabout, and switching between all 3 instruments within a couple minutes time on select songs - that's why you keep going back. He did the same on a casual ASIA tour a couple years back. Yeah, it's not the 'Tales, 'Gates, nor Solo Tour, but to see some of the finest music ever written performed by the writers and original performers sometimes beats the hell out of whatever else you had planned.

I've seen 14 Tours, at least 25 shows, you never know when it will be their last tour. If Jon's throat heals, they'll be back next year with something special, then I'll take my teenage daughter who's learning to play guitar to sit in front of Steve & Jon, and point out Chris, Alan and maybe Rick again, hell, I'll take Moraz, even Oliver seems quicker than his dad and he's been playing those songs since he was a kid anyway. Works for me!

So if anyone is doubting whether or not to see them in the spring of 2009 on their extended tour dates, don't miss your chance - you never know when it will be your last YesShow...gotta go! Close to the Edge, down by a river...Remember High the Memories!

Why did I go back?

In 2005, the Yes I had known was finally buried. Some say they died after Topographic splintered them. Some say the end came when the Buggles were recruited. Some say it came was when Rabin left. In any case, they were surely dead. All that remained was the burial.

That night in Jersey, a musically proficient set of studio players named Dream Theater buried them. Too much power, too much speed, to much desire, too much everything. The same qualities Yes had conveyed 30 yrs. earlier to a then unsuspecting audience. Just one glimpse of Rick Wakemans harrowed expression on the big screen explained it all, I knew he knew. We all did. I wept. It was the end of an era. It was a funeral for a friend. One of my dearest friends.

So why did I go back?

I had to. I think I will always have to. Perhaps it's akin to visiting a loved ones tombstone , placing roses, saying a prayer, and quickly retreating.

Last night felt a bit like this. I did manage to smile. I did manage to tap my foot. And I did manage to croak out a few sprightly exclamations. I'm just happy they're still there for me.

This band has been reduced to a morsel. What used to be the grandest, greatest ever, is now just take the money and run. They should end the show with Pink Floyd's Run Like Hell. They play like they wanna be somewhere else. Especially Oliver. His keyboard playing doesn't come close to the YES sound. They cut out Long Distance Runaround/ The Fish. That's what they should have played, because this show was a LONG DISTANCE RUNAROUND. At this point, they just don't care that they play & sound lousy. They have bills to pay. Just chezzy versions of what use to be the greatest ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's scary that the Starship Troopers form the 90125 tour with Rabin and Kaye were wayyyyy better than this. Hard to admit, but true.

qualify;i have been to every tour since 79..saw,one of the great shows in music history..6/30/79..and many other great yes shows...
1st:who ever posted setlist..they are in correct..there was no long distance,no fish,no aliens..usually an end of tour(last show) show is longer,more emotional,more fun,more pwerful and extended..yes has done this in the past..they shortened the show immensely..very unfair
2nd:the internet singer..my god..were talking about jon anderson..one of the great singers in history..this guy was very good..for a local bar...end of discussion oliver wakeman is the son of rick..thats it..he was mundane
3:alan white cannot complete a drum fill..machine massiah was missing every great drum fill ascwell as other songs..he can still rock any complicated beat,but not complete a drum fill
4:i am aloud to be honest,factual and critical of this band.i have no expectations for them to perform like it was 1977.however,i expect a comprehensive,complete,evocative and well performed show...they are all about the money.anyone who knows..knows...the siberian guitar solo was well played..the starship,wurm..was trunckated..abbreviated and poor..for all those who loveed the show..im happy for you..but do not fool me,yourself or anyone that this band is "playing as well as they ever have"... strong dreams reign here awaken sharethemusic@aol.com
