This was the first time I saw Yes live, so I didn't know what to expect really. I was not disappointed with Benoit. He does Jon Anderson almost better than Jon Anderson! Stunning singer. Not a bum note as far as I heard.
Being a fan of their mostly their entire 70s output I was surprised that they played mostly songs from the Yes Album and Fragile. Great as those albums are why no Close to the Edge? Why no Going for the One? Why no Awaken? Anyway it was a great reminder how accesible and at the same time fantastic the material on those albums is.
I was a bit surpised that they had revived Onward. I find that song totally unremarkable.
The band sounded tighter and frankly much better than I expected. I've heard live clips on the net from previous tours and I was under the impression that they sometimes couldn't perform their more difficult numbers live in a satisfactory way. They sure could yesterday! An almost flawless performance I must say.
The audience was a bit too polite I think. It wasn't until they played Roundabout that the crowd got on their feet.
A big thumbs up to the person on the right hand balcony who was obviously a big fan, especially of the Drama tracks. I'm sure many of us others felt like doing just like him but just didn't dare...

I am totally speechless after attending both Copenhagen and Gothenburg. All I can say is WOW!!!! I have never heard the band as tight and on fire.

Wonderful I say!!! Mr.Squire,mr.Howe,mr.White,mr.Wakeman and mr.David can deliver an absolutely fantastic wall in words and music! I´m stunned about the way they can play these songs over and over again without demolished them totally. Just small adjustments here and there. Lovely! And Chris was just fabulous! Love that guy! Hope to se them soon again!

I had heard that the 2009 band was a great live act and thus had my expectations fully turned up. Consequently, I was a bit disappointed during the first third of the show; the members seemed a little tired and absent, only catching fire here and there, like during Steve's solo in Siberian Khatru or the instrumental passages in Astral Traveller (though Onward was a gem, I have to concede).
Then, as the audience slowly warms up, the ice begins to break. From Your's Is No Disgrace onward the tension builds steadily, the band gets tighter, heavier, more passionate. And this momentum never stops. Already at the time of Machine Messiah (WHAT a number) they are extremely good. And it gets even better from there. Even the over exploited Roundabout gets me on my feet, and THAT was long ago. DON'T miss them on the American leg of the tour.

Superb show from this revamped YES line-up, and one that really lifted the spirit in this dark and cold part of the year! Great song selection, personal favourites being "South Side of the Sky", the two Drama tracks "Tempus Fugit" and "Machine Messiah" and of course the show closer "Starship Trooper". Was fortunate to sit in the second row right in front of my hero Chris Squire and his playing was absolutely amazing - lead bass indeed! Howe was also absolutely superb and his inimitable quirky self. Alan laying down a trusty foundation and even squeezing in a drum solo. Kudos to both Benoit and Oliver for doing a great job! Hope this lot will have an new album out in the not too distant future!
