Summer 2002 "Full Circle" North American Tour July 17, 2002 - August 25, 2002 26 shows |
SOUND CHASER SOUND CHASER: Steve,I KNOW IT WAS GREAT TO SEE DON'T KILL THE WHALE, BUT DON'T SAY THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST YESSHOWS. THE VERSIONS FROM 1978 ARE 1,000,000,000 LIGHT YEARS BETTER. THIS SETLIST IS GREAT, BUT THE MUSICIANSHIP IS FARRRRRRRRRRR BELOW WHAT I WAS USED TO IN THE 1970'S. STILL IT'S A MIRACLE TO SEE THIS AT ALL, AT ALL THE ABOVE WAS MY REVEIW. IN REGUARD TO SOUND CHASER, I RESPECT YOUR OPINION, BUT THE MUSICANSHIP IS 1,000,000,000TH OF WAS IT USE TO BE, EVEN WITH THAT, THEY ARE STILL BETTER THAN ANYONE IN REGARD TO SOUND CHASER I WENT TO II SHOWS IN THE SEVENTIES.DONT GET ME WRONG.YES HAS DEFINETLY MELLOWED OVER THE YEARS. BUT TO SAY THAT THE MUSICABNSHIP IS OF LESS TALENT,YOU ARE LIVING IN YES,PAST. 28 YEARS LATER WITH THE EQIUPMENT AND SHEER PLAYING YHE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER TO SAY THAT MUSIC IS LESS TALENTED IS AN OUTRAGE. ITS JUST DIFFERENT. THATS ALL. PeterMac The Jakarta show was rescheduled to Perth on 23rd Sept PeterMac Yeah i just saw the yes full circle Sydney set and yes i do agree that, in Australia, the show was titled "30th Anniversary tour" Or at least that what my tickets (postponed from March) say.. since, as was noted above .. it was approximately .. or as we say, "near as", thirty years ago that Yes last visited Australia..for ... the Close to the Edge tour. The book signing I attended had a Yes 35th anniversary banner .. for yes it is true that Yes, are 35 years old. two different reasons for two different titles. Geoff Dunn To coincide with the Yes tour, Roger Dean’s exhibition of his art work is happening at GIG Gallery, Glebe, Sydney. Yesfanz get a special preview on 21st and a signing session on 22nd September. The official opening, with Roger Dean present, is on 23rd September and the exhibition runs through until 12th October 2003. Geoff Dunn Alan White has stated in an interview that Yes will not be playing in Jakarta on the 'Full Circle' tour (September 23), due to terrorist atrocities. The band were booked to stay at the Marriott Hotel (which was bombed on August 5th 2003). Nige From the UK Sunday Times 22/06/03: "In September last year I was driving down the M40 towards Birmingham in the early hours of a Saturday morning. There are no lights there. Pitch black. Nothing on the road and I thought I'd call in at Warwick services to have a cup of tea. I was doing about 65mph in the middle lane. Suddenly this stationary abandoned car loomed up at breathtaking speed. I went straight into the back of it. The front of my 7-series BMW disintegrated before my eyes. The airbag came out and I had no control whatsoever. I had visions of headlines like "Rock musician killed in motorway horror!" Then, amazingly, my car slowed to a halt. There was smoke to my left. I don't know how I got out but I did. It was pitch black, freezing and I was really shaken up. There was blood in my mouth. Then a car came out of the darkness and went into the back of my car. A family got out and I called them over to the side of the road. Then there was an almighty crunch and flying towards us was the remains of the car I had hit which had now been hit by a lorry. I thought, "This is ridiculous, I've survived the car crash and now I'm going to be hit by the same car again!" We dived out of the way. Seconds later the emergency services arrived. They wanted me to go to the hospital but on Monday I had to fly to America to start the second leg of a 30-date tour. A lot of people were depending on me. I signed a document stating that I refused to go to hospital. The paramedic was really helpful. He had to go back via Liverpool airport and dropped me off. I flew home to the Isle of Man and on Monday I flew to America. For the first week I was nearly crying with agony on stage." Yesman Lee This morning, the "well-informed" dj on ArrowFM reported that YES may be doing a single show in L.A. before they head to Japan. He seemed pretty confident about this info. Hmmm. YesWorld Yes regret to announce that due to a recent back injury sustained by Jon Anderson the band is forced to postpone their tour of Southeast Asia, Japan, and Australia until the Fall. Jon fractured three vertebrae over the Christmas holidays in an accident. Under doctor’s orders he will be unable to travel or perform while he recovers, forcing the band to postpone the opening leg of the Full Circle Tour. Most of the dates, which were scheduled to start February 16, were sold out and efforts are underway to reschedule for later this year. "The entire band and I are very disappointed about having to postpone this tour, which we were really looking forward to doing," says Jon. "I personally appreciate the understanding of our fans, as it is certainly not in our history to cancel or postpone tours. We are eager to reschedule the dates in these territories as soon as possible." Geoff Dunn The 30th Anniversary is to celebrate almost exactly three decades since Yes last played in Australia in 1973: 03/19/73 Brisbane AUS (Festival Hall), 03/21/73 Adelaide AUS (Apollo Stadium), 03/23/73 Melbourne AUS (Melbourne Festival Hall), 03/26/73 Sydney AUS (Hordern Pavilion), 03/27/73 Sydney AUS (Hordern Pavilion) Shame they aren't doing as many shows this time or performing here in New Zealand (dreamtime), but we're VERY happy to be going for the two! Colin Morris The 30th anniversary of what, exactly? Yes where formed 35 years ago and the current line first played together 31 years ago. Just something dreamt up in the minds of the promoters perhaps? Paul Rogers The bands management have instructed the promoter *not* to use 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' in any advertising as the band have no intention of playing that song down under. Thank God! Terry Thompson Since Wakeman's love for elaborate keyboard setups have been mentioned from time to time, I thought I'd give the rundown of his current rig for those instrument techheads(like me) according to the latest Keyboard Mag interview. I wish I had the words to describe the feelings... ...not I am ready to die :-) I saw YES Live!!! Geoff Dunn At last - it's official! We are ecstatic that Yes have finally included Australasia in their tour itinerary - and with the Classic line-up!!! While those of us here in New Zealand will have to fly across the Tasman (Topographic) Ocean to get there, it sure is a lot more convenient and affordable than travelling to USA. Some of us have done this for previous Yes tours to see the greatest band on the planet. Most of us will be going to both shows (Melbourne and Sydney) and the anticipation for these Yesshows is paramount! To be there at Vodafone Arena on 28th February 2003 and hearing the strains of "Firebird Suite" filling the venue is the a most exciting thought and it is certain to be the most amazing musical event to ever grace the Southern Hemisphere. Jon, Chris, Steve, Alan and Rick - we cannot thank you enough! "...we must have waited all our lives for this moment..." nzyesfan It's a great relief to see the dates coming in for the Asia/Pacific region Yestour in early 2003 especially Australia. The anticipation after 30 years is immense. Feb/Mar is a great time to take a holiday in Oz btw so check out [Link] or the "like leaves we touch" section at Yesservices for details and plan yourself a Dreamtime Downunder vacation. Please e-mail the above address with further tour details( classic tours)This is 1977 RELIVED Best Wishes Long live yes, Tom Mannouch Barry A. Jeckel Yes: Wakeman In The Fold For Summer Tour Barry A. Jeckel Billboard.com May 14, 2002 Although he has said many times that it was "unlikely," keyboardist Rick Wakeman has once again rejoined classic progressive rock act Yes, and will be with the band on its summer North American tour. "It's true that I have said in many interviews that I thought it unlikely to happen," Wakeman says on his official Web site, "but I also said that I would never say never, (although I'm sure somebody is bound to find an interview somewhere where I said 'never')!" Wakeman, who has been in and out of the Yes lineup many times over the last 33 years, last exited the group in the mid-1990s to concentrate on his solo career. "We are very excited to have Rick joining us on this tour," bassist Chris Squire said in a statement. "It's been something the fans have wanted to see for quite some time, and we are happy to be playing with him again." What is being called the "classic" Yes lineup -- vocalist Jon Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, Squire, and Wakeman -- will kick off its North American tour July 17 in Seattle and wrap Aug. 23 in Los Angeles. An exclusive Internet presale will begin Thursday (May 16) at 10 a.m. ET at windowsmedia.com. Along with the opportunity to purchase tickets before they go onsale to the general public, the site also features rare Yes audio and video clips. The group will be touring in support of its forthcoming Rhino/Elektra box set, "In a Word: Yes (1969-)." Due July 16, the five-disc, 55-track set boasts material from the band's entire career, as well as an 80-page booklet with rare photos and essays. Melodie Past I had a few spare minutes at noon and called in to KZOK in Seattle (Thanks to Paul Secord for the info) to ask Alan White a couple of things -- Yes are playing "On the Silent Wings of Freedom." ("It's something Steve wants to do," Alan White says.) coltrain210@aol.com colby wallace Subject: Re: YesWorld: Summer Tour That is awesome! With this dready weather, and everything just slowing down because of the Winter season, not that that is bad, it's good to hear news like that. Don Eg Q 104.3 Yes Confirms Wakeman Participation For Summer Tour Yes has confirmed that it will hit the road this summer with keyboardist Rick Wakeman, following several months of rumors. Wakeman--who has done four separate stints in Yes across the '70s, '80s, and '90s--first joined the group for 1972's Fragile and is considered a pivotal member of the progressive rock band, playing on classic releases such as Close To The Edge and Going For The One. Bassist Chris Squire tells us some details are still being ironed out for the tour--which is slated to kick off in North America during late July--but he's confident it will indeed happen: "As far as I know, Rick is gonna be coming out with us. I have yet to see the ink on the piece of paper, but that's as far as I know. I'm actually going over to London next week. I'll probably get together with him and just make sure we are all on the same page. I'm pretty sure that that's what's going on." Squire adds that Yes is just beginning to map out its repertoire for the summer show, and he's sure the addition of Wakeman to the lineup--which also includes frontman Jon Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe and drummer Alan White--will impact the decision on what to play: "Ideas are just, are just starting to flow around about, you know, the songs, but we'll still do some tracks from the last album, from Magnification. We'll, we want to carry on promoting that as part of the, of the thing, but we'll obviously dig into our repertoire and, you know, choose some Wakeman-friendly tunes, I guess." |
