R North Wednesday, October 4, 2017 3:20 PM Nice story HMC. The thing is that Fragile wasn't released until November 12 1971. So that part of your story is bunk. Duncan Yep - I was there too! I was just 17 and my first rock concert. Caught the bus from Darlington. I'd got into Yes thanks to Alan Fluff Freeman playing "No Opportunity Needed" and "Then" from Time and a Word on his Sunday radio show. You know, the one where he played whatever he liked for the first hour and then the Top 40 after that. Been into them ever since - bought every studio album and most live albums and seen them a few times. Last time was at the NEC 2 years back. I remember sitting in the front circle, seemingly a long way from the front but I was blown away by their performance - I used to be (still am) an anorak regarding mellotrons and to see one being played live was out of this world. They're still my favourite band ever. HMC YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! How old - just 15! No wonder my hearing is shot. Oh those heady days in Stockton and M'Bro - Pink Floyd - Jethro Tull - Family - Hawkwind - YES I have never actually listened to that much YES since then, never bought an album, but have just go YESSONGS for a bit of reminiscence in my 50's hence the search for this site, cannot believe it is THAT long ago. Got into YES cos me and my mate Jane jumped in with a car full of Stockton or Boro lads passing through a small village in Yorkshire (we had to do something) one hot late long summers evening and Fragile was playing on the tape deck I said 'oh yes!! cos I thought it was cool, they thought I knew the band - I didn't let them know I didn't - Yes were playing in October and the rest is history . Jane did her O' levels listening to it, I have sung bits of it ever since - called my dog Rick! Oh the concert - can't remember much except being completely blown away and loving every minute - it was just fantastic!!!! It entered a bit of my personal mythology. Not sure buying YESSONGS was a good idea - doesn't quite have the same impact in my sitting room, on my own .............. will be singing inappropriately tomorrow no doubt. Hey - anyone else out there???? Did you go too?? |
