I was a junior in college, and this was my 4th time seeing Yes. I remember a horrible crush waiting to get in as security had to move the entire mob backwards before opening the gates! Gary Wright’s band all wore day-glo jumpsuits, and music was tight. Gentle Giant was at the top of their game having just released Free Hand, and rivaled Yes for technical virtuosity. Frampton was also at his peak, and was masterful using his “talking tube”. Yes came on just as it started to get dark and was the perfect cap to an amazing day. The Roger Dean floating snake heads sculpture was not quite as compelling as the previous year’s dual “pods” set, but was well adapted to the outdoor stadium stage, and the final laser show was incredible. Too bad it was the last time I got to hear Gates and Sound Chaser live!

This was and amazing show. It was the summer after 10th grade at Patrick Henry High and Yes and Peter Frampton were two favorite bands. I do remember the epic Roger Dean set and I took slides of the shows. Will have to dig those out of the basement! Remembering all of this as I read Frampton's new book 'Do You Feel Like I Do?

I remember this one.. Yes came out all in robes if my memory is correct.. Gentle Giant was a first for me and their drum solo by the whole band at the end of their set made a lasting impression, along with the guitarists keeping the beat by"stomping" also made an impression.. thanks for the memory, big sis

Beautiful summer day with a day long concert that included the bands Yes, Gentle Giant, Gary Wright(Dream Weaver) and Peter Frampton. If I remember correctly, Yes opened the show. This was my first Yes show and they blew me away. They played a good part of the Relayer album. I bought it the next day and still play it occasionally. They crowd went crazy when Frampton took the stage as this was the summer of the album Frampton Comes Alive. So lucky to enjoy the day and the memories.

My first concert... I remember dragging a bean bag into the stadium and dumping just as we arrived (gross). A friend of ours (Ray) actually snuck in... try that today!

This was my first concert and I was 15 living in Lakeside, CA. I went with my 16 yr old best friend who drove us. It was a hot day and we got baked both outside (sun) and in (pot). My memories include Frampton’s mouth device, Wright’s group parachuting down to the stadium, Tull’s awesome flute playing and Yes’ unbelievable laser show.
Good times indeed!

Went to Anaheim the day before. Had nosebleed seats but went and stood 20 feet from the stage when YES came in. Great show.

Had just graduated High School (Clairemont) in San Diego. Got with a few friends and assembled coolers of alcohol (plastic was OK!). Sat on concrete seats so as to be level with stage. The weather was nice as everyone has mentioned, but we drank so much beer we almost passed out in the afternoon. HOWEVER, when YES took the stage, we sobered up and caught the show properly. I vividly recall the lighting show, and thought it was cutting-edge, which it truly was. I remember waiting to get into Balboa Stadium. The mass of people were treated to good sound system music. I recall hearing Doobie Brothers "Takin' it to the streets" and the low end was very well represented. (Recall the emphasized bass notes in that song).

Myself and 2 friends drove out to CA from Brooklyn, NY to take summer school classes at UCSD. We went to the concert which I do not remember any details about except it was a beautiful day and a fantastic show. I had been a huge YES and Frampton fan and they did not disappoint. I was 18 years old and it was just one fantastic summer.

I was at this show. I was just 13 years old. It was a huge and overwhelming event for a 13 year old alone in the crowd. Luckily I ran into a friend and hung with her and her friends for much of the show. Yes' staging and light show blew me away. I had no idea something like that existed. Very glad to say I was there.

I was 16. A few friends and myself went to the show but did not have tickets. We tryed to sneak in but that did not work so we stayed outside. We had a great time.

I went to this concert at age 14, first concert ever, and it was at Balboa Stadium, not the Murph (Quallcom). For Gentle Giant, Wright, and Frampton, my fiend Neal and I were in the stands, chillin', saving our energy, watching people getting tossed high into the air from large blankets. When Yes came onstage we were on the move, two skinny, 14 year old kids from Encinitas, ploughing our way to within 10 people deep from the stage. I remember the intro., the lasers, the Roger Dean stage, some tourist from Finland telling us that Genesis was even better live than Yes ( debatable ), and the length of the show an astounding 3hr:45min! "I'm Down", the Beatles B-side finale encore was a big surprise.

for bottles coming in, they put me in front of the stage
where the fence started to come down from people
pushing. very exciting for me at 19yrs old.

If someone filmed the Gary Wright set, I wonder if there's any film of the YES set. Wouldn't it be great if that was available somewhere?

Well, if you still like Gary Wright... two songs of this San Diego concert has been released on DVD! The DVD is called Spooky Tooth Nomad Poets Live in germany 2004 with two bonus tracks Love is alive and Are you weepin. Sppoky Tooth was the band Gary Wright was playing in.

I was just 15 when I was invited to this show on a perfect Sunday afternoon and have a few memories that I will never forget. On the way in a couple of guys in trenchcoats were saying "Acid anybody need some acid" which was normal during concerts around that time,I passed on that. We found a place in the middle and settled in.My buddies rolled up a few "thai hash oilers" which were shared with everyone within a 30 foot radius of us,that really "enhanced" the show...This was a classic show with 3 of the bands at there prime. Gary Wright did "Dreamweaver" and let go of balloons during the song which stuck in my memory.. then Peter Framptom did his whole Frampton comes Alive album which was "Awesome!"The "talkbox thing he used got great feedback from the crowd. Just like the video you might see of him from that time. Then the main Event !!YES!! They did "Ritual" and had smoke with a lazer going through which looked really bitchen and had some kind of giant blow up dragon or something. Sound quality was excellent. It was a truly unforgetable day.
