Indeed, it was Renaissance as the opening act, with Annie Haslam as the lead vocalist. (Renaissance headlined separately with Al Di Meola at the Phoenix Civic Center--not a popular concert venue in PHX as it was really more of a convention and conference center). This Yesshow was inside the Coliseum, which is still located on the fairgrounds on the westside, and was the arena home to the Phoenix Suns during the 70s and 80s.

I attended this concert and it was my only Yes concert. I can verify that Renaissance opened for them. I was blown away by this stage set up. It was most awesome. Aside from that, I was surprised that Jon Anderson played the harp for his solo. The sound system was right on. Jane Relf, the lead singer for Renaissance, stood behind large plexiglass panels. I had read that at a previous concert, a concertgoer tossed a cherry bomb up onto the stage. All in all this concert was quite good.

Great show, but this show wasn't at the Dodge theater, it was at the fairgrounds at the Coliseum

I was 15 years old and I still remember it like yesterday cool light show. Wasn't there like 3 dragon heads above the stake with lights comming out of them pretty cool. I hitched hiked from Oak Creek to see Yes and I'll always remember it I went with my friend Johnny Winter. Late Mike

Yeah, Gentle Giant most definitely did NOT play at this gig. They did some West Coast shows opening for Yes, but ended that association a couple days prior to this show. More info at my GG website listed here - -

Indeed, it was Renaissance, which had a fairly strong fain base in Phoenix, even headlining a show (with Al Di Meola opening) at Phoenix Civic Plaza.

This was my second YES concert. I saw them first at the 1975 show at Tempe Staduim. This show was the first time (at least I am aware of)I saw the innovative use of laser lighting. The moving set pieces and the ability to make the light correspond to the music was amazing. I do not remember too many specifics of the performances, however as a budding 17 year old YES fan I can only say I was in awe of the ability of all the band members. This was a semi-religous experience for my music development to that point in my life.

This was the first time I saw YES and I remember it clearly because Relayer was my favorite album and Sound Chaser was the most impressive work ever to be recorded by a rock band (if you can think of Yes as just a rock band).

But one correction here. Gentle Giant was NOT the opening act. Instead it was Renaissance. It was an awesome show and the set was totally Roger Dean.

A night I will never forget!

It would be great if someone would research and verify that I am correct with regard to the opening act.
