A friend of a friend recorded both Cream and Yes at this show. I asked him to find out if I could obtain a copy only to discover that the guy had thrown it out during a house move. I was absolutely gutted!

Well, as it's nearly 35 years the memories are fading and I really went to see Cream...

As I remember ( I went to the first show) they were more a tight harmony group type doing 3 - 5 minute numbers, doing a couple of Jim Webb songs, I remember 'Carpet Man'.

It was the first time I had heard of them, was impressed with the good clean guitar and swirling organ, strong bass and of course the always impressive Anderson vocals. I had also taken some interest in drumming and was welll satisfied in that department too. They weren't quite heavy enough for my Taste(they were on too. didn't go for them at all) at this time but I subsequently followed them through The Yes Album to about Tales, still got the vinyl!

I see there's a video out of Cream's 'Farewell' concert at the Royal Albert Hall, November 26 1968. Yes opened for them at that one. I wonder if........

Nope. Banks and other YesMen have told me that the cameras weren't even rolling with Yes on stage that night. : (

SECONDS: One of your earliest show was opening at the Cream farewell concert. How did that event impact on your career?

ANDERSON: It was the first time we played in front of so many people. I tell ya, it was amazing to see, because Cream were the best of the musicians in London at the time. There was another guy on the bill. Rory Gallagher. We just went on stage and probably sounded like a little band because emotionally we were a little band. After that we thought all we've got to do now is go out to the sticks and play clubs, and get some university gigs. That's all you think about.
