Bobby Wahl and John DuBois maintain "The Warehouse Concerts List 1970-1982"
Gerald Bostock Wednesday, May 3, 2017 8:00 AM Was there over from Gulfport, MS - had seen Tull at the Warehouse a year earlier, July '70. The Warehouse was a one-of-a kind place - age 18, being with like-minded people, in the midst of great music. Norb Gobert I was there at The Warehouse in New Orleans in 71. I and my friends went mainly to see Tull who was a very happening band at the time. The backup group was one we had never heard of. Little did we know at the time what an inspirational performance was about to occur. YES simply blew us away! With a unique style of their own we were as mezmerized then as we remain today. I have attended many YES concerts over the years and they have continued to amaze and entertain like no other band. I will be at the Paramount in Denver Feb.12,2009. I can hardly contain my excitement! Bob I was 22, an avid photo buff, and huge Yes and Tull fan. I came ready with a 35mm Nikon equipped with a telephoto lens, thinking I'd need it to shoot from the back of the room. Somehow I talked my way through security to get a "press pass" and was the only one permitted into the narrow access trench which ran the length of the stage and separated the crowd by about three feet with a rail. Holy Smokes! What do I do now? I had to go to either end of the stage and focus on the other end to get a 'head shot' of anyone due to the limitations of the telephoto lens. Needless to say, I took full advantage of my access and got a few good pics. But it was the music --up close and personal-- that blew me away. Ian Anderson was hopping all over the place with his flute and the raucous Tull, and of course, Yes was simply marvelous. I had heard 'The Yes Album' a few hundred times already, so every note brought a brighter glow to the music. I can't say with certainty whether the Warehouse's sound was great or not, but it was sensational coming through the monitors on stage. ('The Clap' sounds extraordinary from two feet away.) I've been to several Yes concerts since, but that Fourth of July in New Oleans was a once in a lifetime event for me. MICHAELABSHIER MY FIRST GLIMPSE OF YES, SECOND OF TULL.YES WAS OUTSTANDING.NICE SMALLPLACETOVIEW PROGRESSIVE MUSIC IN A SERENE SURROUNDING. Ken The date was 7/04, 1970 on a Saturday and it was Tull's Aqualung tour. They only played apx. 30-45 minutes. It was in a place called 'The Warehouse', which was a very happening place back then. |
