Mudster The opening act was NOT Mahogany Rush, it was Donovan. Someday I'll post a review, this was one of the greatest concerts I ever saw and the only time I was able to see this classic lineup in the 70's from within the first 10 rows. Awaken was a truly spiritual experience. Jeff Furst I spent a long time a few feet from the stage. Unfortunately, there were some drunk guys--or stoned--and they kept whooping through a few tunes. I always considered the music of Yes--at least I do now in retrospect--to be intensely spiritual, and best enjoyed sober and with all your faculties. I was riveted on this one. My most vivid recollection, still clear in my mind, was at the end of Long Distance Runaround, where Chris went backstage while Steve played the short prelude to The Fish. Out came Chris wearing a three neck bass guitar. I recall a collective "whoa" coming from the crowd. I remember how different the concert was from the Relayer show I had seen three years before. I loved them both for what they were. But in the '77 tour they must have saved a bundle on props! It was nice to focus on their musicality. It was also my first time seeing Rick Wakeman in person. I don't remember enough--I wish I could experience it again! |
