A glorious day I gotta say

My buddy Steve and I got the CNE early that day and walked around the fairgrounds. We later snuck into the grandstand as the crew were setting up the stage (something we always try to do). Not much action so we headed to the Bavarian Beer Garden and quaffed for much of the afternoon and even won a trivia contest that featured Wakeman as the final answer. I can't remember what the prize was but hey.

As the sun was setting we got on the old aerial car ride which is no longer in existence and went the length of the fairgrounds lookind down onto the sea of people whilst smoking a large one. Upon completion we filed into the show and simmered down.

The show was great but not nearly as intimate and immediate as Darien Lake. Loud though. After the show we pondered on making the trek to Ottawa for the next night's show but work committments ruined that plan.

Steve nearly fell asleep at the wheel on numerous ocassions on our trek back to Niagara Falls. I remember it all like yesterday. If only we could do it again eh Cheddar!!

This show took place at the old (now demolished) Exhibition Stadium by Lake Ontario. A confusing moment occured when, after All Good People, the band suddenly left the stage without explanation. I remember seeing Rick waving to the crowd as he walked off, then the house lights went up! No-one knew what was happening, and I saw quite a few people packing up their things and leaving, the show seemed over for sure.
Of course it was only an intermission and they came back with Close To The Edge, but nothing was said, and I wonder to this day how many people actually left....

I remember bootlegging this concert back then. I used to have an interesting procedure (quite simple actually) Stuff the expensive Sony Walkman into my crotch and head straight for the female security guard. They never dared pad your groin area!! Of course this made walking rather awkward and a i mmediate trip to the washroom to extricate the device was in order. Once inside it was a breeze. So maybe the recording listed here is mine ( I did trade them all over the place back then). The concert was excellent. They were just all around better musicians than the Big Generator tour that I had seen 2 years before. Howe was superb and Wakeman exceptional. Even Tony Levin with those odd wooden finger things was great. The only problem was when the enormous lardass next to me passed out during the middle of "Close to the Edge". He has been screaming "YESSSS, YESSSS" throughout the show.
