Felix Eschenbach

I remember this concert very well as it was my first YES concert. I was a teenager and I was very addicted to
the 90125 style of YES-West. So it was my first proper encounter with classical YES music and I was totally
blown away.
The solos were great, the sound was fantastic and the band, I believe, was very enthusiastic. A lot of
people expected a different band so that the venue was not so full any more after the show was half over. The
stage design was pretty good, if I remember right it was something like a big spider on the wall behind the band.
Tony Levin played a great bass part on Heart of the Sunrise which was more funky than Chris Squire but very
powerful as well. Actually this was the best version of the song I've ever heard even though the live recording
doesn't capture it very well. The unplugged section at the beginning was also fantastic with Jon making fun of
Owner of a lonely Heart. Also I remember Jon talking about things happening in Germany at the time, the
opening of the Berlin wall and the collapse of Eastern Germany. In any respect a very emotional evening,
certainly not only for me.
