Jon Anderson - Steve Howe - Chris Squire - Alan White - Tom Brislin with Wilhelm Keitel and the European Festival Orchestra transcriptions of between-song dialogue: [Link] For the US tour in support of their Orchestral album, Magnification, Yes operated with a pickup Orchestra, taking on a different local Symphony Orchestra as a backing band in each town they arrived in. For most of the European & UK Tour, they kept the same Orchestra, and this paid off with some very nice shows. Unfortunately, it was a long tour and they were wearing down and often shortening their set by dropping Gates of Delirium. That said, this night in Brighton is one of the top 10 performances Yes has ever staged, and I just know that guy who keeps posting in ALL CAPS on Forgotten Yesterdays won't agree, but who cares? This is, quite frankly, one of the best tapes from the UK Symphonic Tour, capturing one of the best performances of the UK tour (I've heard most of the circulating tapes, but remember that this is still just my opinion). Performed just after George Harrison passed, shortly into the set they break into an impromptu Here Comes The Sun, during which brings the songs with a "Sun Theme" to a really high number, even for a Yes Concert. :-| The audience is incredibly appreciative, mostly clapping between songs, and a lot of the clapping is very loud and present on the tape. This is an AUDIENCE recording in every sense of the word, but during the music the crowd is, for the most part, incredibly quiet, leaving us with a very clean recording. This torrent includes Matt's Cooledit remaster, recently chopped it down to make the 81 min disc 79 mins for circulating convenience. I cut out a few screams and excessive applause, mostly after Gates, and lowered a few clap spikes when they interfered with the music. Also brought the volume in Steve's Solos up quite a bit. Anyone at any of these shows will tell you, he played very quietly. Just listen to Steve's playing in Ritual in the samples. I have a hard time listening to the last 2 songs because the meat of this show is so good, and just in case you wondered WHY this was such a good performance, listen to the tempo changes at the beginning of Roundabout as the crowd almost overpowers Alan's tempo and the band shifts to meet the crowd's pace. They've sat for over 2 hours and listened to difficult music and now the band, worn out and near the end of the tour, is giving them something they can dance to. This is a good enough reason for anyone who hates this part to understand why they always close the set with the hits... This is another yesnospam tape, one of about 7 tapers to whom we owe an enormous debt for most of the post-Keys shows... Equipment: Sony ECM-MS907 microphone > Sony MZR-55 MD Recorder The original transfer from the Discs to CDR way back in December 2001 had the cables reversed, so the left channel was right & right was left. Every subsequent copy was made from these discs, so this will be the first one with the channels set proper. The remaster included here is a very light touch and just what this recording needs, but I would still recommend you blow your bandwidth and grab them both. You never know when you might want to make your OWN remaster! setlist: Give Love Each Day Overture Close To The Edge Listen To Your Heart Symphonic Intro Long Distance Runaround Here Comes The Sun Don't Go Tour Song In The Presence Of Gates Of Delirium J's Theme In The Course Of The Day Starship Trooper Magnification And You And I Ritual I've Seen All Good People Roundabout Brighton Raw 1.01 Give Love Each Day ~ Close To The Edge (24.01) 1.02 Listen To Your Heart ~ Long Distance Runaround (5.03) 1.03 Here Comes The Sun (2.02) 1.04 Don't Go (4.58) 1.05 Tour Song (0.50) 1.06 In The Presence Of (11.01) 1.07 Conductor & Orchestra Intro (1.15) 1.08 The Gates Of Delerium (22.43) 1.09 Steve Howe Intro (0.16) 1.10 J's Theme (3.58) 1.11 In The Course Of The Day (3.39) Brighton Raw 2.01 Starship Trooper (12.59) 2.02 Magnification (7.56) 2.03 And You And I (12.22) 2.04 Ritual (27.33) 2.05 Applause ~ Intro (0.51) 2.06 Your Move ~ I've Seen All Good People (6.56) 2.07 Encore Applause (2.53) 2.08 Roundabout (6.52) Brighton Remastered 3.01 Give Love Each Day (2.22) 3.02 Close To The Edge (21.29) 3.03 Listen To Your Heart ~ Long Distance Runaround (5.05) 3.04 Here Comes The Sun (1.51) 3.05 Don't Go (4.45) 3.06 Tour Song (1.34) 3.07 In The Presence Of (10.37) 3.08 Conductor & Orchestra Intro (1.24) 3.09 The Gates Of Delerium (22.15) 3.10 Steve Howe Intro (0.47) 3.11 J's Theme (3.57) 3.12 In The Course Of The Day (3.46) Brighton Remastered 4.01 Starship Trooper (12.57) 4.02 Magnification (7.52) 4.03 And You And I (12.22) 4.04 Ritual (27.49) 4.05 Your Move ~ I've Seen All Good People (10.25) 4.06 Roundabout (6.54) enjoy~! |
