Yes played the Oakdale four times between 1998 and 2002, but haven't been back there since. This theater has really nice acoustics, and like the Albany and Boston shows, sound was great where I was sitting. It looks like they've decided on a set list to stick with, so once again the only new track was "Believe Again". The show was pretty good from a performance standpoint, but "Five Percent For Nothing" was truly a train wreck this time out. I was hoping that since it was a 34 second song they would try it again after the first attempt, but no such luck. The recording is excellent. I couldn't be more pleased how the three shows came out. As I mentioned, the acoustics are great at the Oakdale. This was my first time recording anyone at the theater proper (they have smaller shows in "The Dome" section which serves as the lobby for the theater shows, and the acoustics in The Dome are brutal). The crowd gets a bit rowdier toward the end of the show, but there is nothing too distracting on the recording. Everyone has their opinion of the current state of Yes, but I have to admit, I had a great time at the three shows. Jon Davison can really sing, and Steve and Chris can still bring it at times, and Geoff did his homework with most of the Fragile material. I think all Yes fans would prefer Jon Anderson was back, but these were still fun shows and I'm happy I went. Artwork is included in the torrent. The photos are from the actual show. PLEASE DO NOT USE AS A SOURCE FOR A MATRIX. Please share this recording in unaltered lossless quality. If you need to remaster, or something, let me know, and I can provide the undedited raw master (without EQ/volume tweaks) for you to use. -- MP July 2014 |
