On this short three-date Florida tour, they played a new setlist, gearing up for their performances on Cruise To The Edge. The shows were: November 11 in Sarasota; November 12 in Melbourne; and November 13 in Fort Lauderdale. This bootleg’s title To Navigate Waters are lyrics from "Tempus Fugit" in honor of the three-show Florida tour prior to Cruise To The Edge. We went to see Yes show on Wednesday evening, November 11, 2015 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, Florida. We have generally enjoyed recordings that have more context than less. So we decided to be very inclusive with this bootleg, including the show announcement at the beginning, and much of the audience ambiance, including applause after Roundabout before the encore song Starship Trooper. The crowd was really wonderful for the show. As with any live recording of a concert, you don’t know who will be sitting nearby, you will hear quite a bit of singing and clapping from a couple to our right, but not to the point of distraction. As with their other shows on the Summer 2015 North America Tour, Yes preceded their show with a moving video tribute to the late Chris Squire set to a recording of "Onward," with a single white spotlight illuminating his Rickenbacker bass. Unfortunately Jon Davison's microphone wasn't working for the first few minutes of "Siberian Khatru." They tried swapping it out, but that didn't fix the problem. After a few minutes of only hearing harmonic backing vocals from Billy Sherwood, and a bit from Steve Howe, they finally got Jon Davison's vocals properly in the mix at around the 5:25 mark. This was the very first time that Yes played "Man in a White Car Suite" since it was last played during their Drama tour in 1980, according to Steve Howe as he introduced the song played by keyboardist Geoff Downes and lead singer Jon Davison. For "Nine Voices," Jon Davison introduced Alan White, who came down from behind his drum kit to front of stage and played electronic percussion. This is the first time it has been played live by Yes since The Ladder tour. We were in the 11th row, to the left of center. With Yes' standard set up (from left to right): Steve Howe/Geoff Downes, Jon Davison, Alan White/Billy Sherwood; Steve Howe was directly in front of us. Also at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall were Yes alumni Eddy Offord and Patrick Moraz. For the show, everything recorded by GeoffreyM on a TASCAM DR-05 to SD card using 24-bit WAV at 44.1k. The cutting, converting to FLAC and EQ-ing was done by Remy with Adobe Audition CC 2014. Processing including: Volume adjustment for all tracks, but for the announcement a bit extra; Bass reduction for some tracks, especially for DKTW for it is way too heavy. Gromek assisted with edits including: removing clipping and clicking where needed. Graphics for the front cover for To Navigate Waters include the poster Yes created for the announcement of their three-show Florida tour. As you can see on the poster, graphics from Yes album covers make up the letters of FLORIDA. Photographs are from the November 11, 2015 show at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, Florida. The booklet is the two-page center spread Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall had in their program in reference to the Yes show. GeoffreyM 2015 |
