After being late to the show in Fort Lauderdale, I vowed that I wouldn't miss a note of this performance. I turned the recorder on five minutes early, but when the lights dimmed, a late arrival in my row forced me to stand up after the intro music had started and my cable disconnected. One small complaint - there were no surprises on the set list. It's disappointing when the host of the cruise can't include a couple of minor changes for the occasion. The only unusual thing to happen was when Steve noticed a guy around 15 rows back holding up an ipad. I'm sure he saw him earlier, but during All Good People Steve started pointing at the guy and gesturing to the crew. We all turned around to see what he was pointing at and it was obvious that it was the ipad idiot. He never figured out that Steve was pointing at him, nor did anyone sitting near him ask him to stop as far as I could tell. After All Good People, Steve said "No ipads!" This went unnoticed or ignored of course and Steve seemed quite upset, so much so that I thought there wouldn't be an encore. When they returned for Starship Trooper, Steve said this (transcribed from the recording): "Alright, well thank you very very much for coming down - except for the guy with the ipad. He's been filming the whole show. There he is. There's the twat. Phones, cameras - OK! ipads - (makes a razzing noise)". I'm pretty sure the guy continued to film, but I'm not certain since I stopped turning around. Of course if Steve knew what I was doing he would probably have some choice words for me too. Since I booked the cruise on the first day, my assigned seat in the theater was closer to the stage than I would normally want for recording. While I was fortunate to be aligned with the stage-left stack, another 10 rows further back would have helped. It's still a much better recording than the Fort Lauderdale show since the stacks were nowhere near as high. |
