Well I was a little late (thanks, Josh!). Didn't get in the park til near the end of the first song. Binko had the mics, so he dropped his chair in my spot and did the first set while I watched it on the jumbotron on the hill. Then came the set break and I took the mics and took over. OK I love Yes. And the things this version of Yes has been doing as far as performing whole albums has made me appreciate albums I'd've normally overlooked, but this evening I reached prog overload. Somewhere in the second set I realized that all Yes sounds the same and that Steve Howe plays that same scale in every guitar solo, then looks at the audience like "Did you see that? That was pretty good, right? Wanna see me do it again?". My brain shut off once it's capacity for random complex progressions was reached. All in all it was an impressivee show with a mostly clueless audience. People complained that they didn't play the big 10 songs, and to them I say "You shouldn't have come to a concert you were underinformed about. I knew what they were going to play and what to expect, and I'm perfectly satisfied I got what I came for". As the 2nd set went on people slowly drifted out looking mildly confused, leaving those of us who got it to enjoy ourselves. The entire intro to And You and I is ruined a bunch of girls in front of me chatting like they were in a bar. Ok let me expain a bit: I sit right on the concrete pad behind the corrall they have around the soundboard. There's no one in front of me because the soundboard is there. Well this time the corrall was bigger, and a bunch of girls were in there. They sat in a circle and blabbed, oblivious to the show starting in fron of (and behind) them. I told them the picnic area was over there, but they just kep' on keeping on. I moved over 10 feet. Eventually they joineD the exodus of the ignorant and the show went o without them. Security came over and tried to bust me taping again, but this time I had the recorder hidden well enough they didn't see it and the tape is unbroken other than their intrusion. By the way, don't you think it's about time they changed the band name to Yessongs? It's not Yes, but it's their songs. Not one original member is in this band. Sure Steve Howe was there for all the important stuff, but he's not an original member. Geoff Downes was in the band before, but he's not an original member. Squire is dead. Anderson is gone. And Alan White is also not an original member. At this show he wasn't even there, and his replacement kept making mistakes. This is a cover band and it's time they acknowledged it. This recording is spatialized mono. The electrical interference that plagued several other recordings this year ruined the left channel completely. I replaced it with the right, then simulated stereo with Nugen's Stereoizer 3. I'm beginning to think it's a problem with the deck itself because it only happens with Binko's recorder. The problem is it's an intermittent noise and there's no way to confirm if it's a deck issue or not other than to record a show with more than one recorder at the same time. Binko will buy another one if we can prove it's the deck. 01 Machine Messiah 02 White Car 03 Does It Really Happen? 04 Into the Lens 05 Run Through the Light 06 Tempus Fugit 07 I've Seen All Good People 08 Siberian Khatru 09 And You and I 10 The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn) 11 Leaves of Green 12 Ritual (Nous Sommes du Soleil) 13 Roundabout 14 Starship Trooper |
