Hello Everyone:

Alright, let's dispense with the obvious so we don't have to beat this to death. This is not the “classic” Yes lineup, that hasn't happened for decades. Alan White is recovering from back surgery and is not performing with the band for the time being. Fini!

So, having said that, this has got to be one of the best performances I've see by this band in a while, including with Chris on recent tours. There's something to be said for injecting new blood into an old band. I was very skeptical after hearing Alan wasn't going to perform. And to be honest, after listening to the Columbus show, I really had my doubts that this was going to work. I was picking up missed cues in several spots. But after only a couple nights since OH, these guys pulled off a spectacular performance. I used to play drums to the Drama album all the time. I have a keen senses for the patterns in the songs. Jay Schellen was spot on from start to finish. Billy has certainly come into his own as well in one short year since Chris' passing. I'm amazed at how good he sounds here. He also would cue Jay and lead the band during some of the more intricate changes. His vocal range is fantastic as well. I don't have a good explanation for this but Geoff always seems uncomfortable to me. However, he was more animated than usual, very aggressive with the keys and added some wonderful vocal harmonies. And of course I can't forget the maestro himself. Steve is the consummate artist. Some might argue Yes today isn't 'progressive' enough, not like the old days. I couldn't help but notice throughout the evening how much Steve is still the master of his craft. He was playing some crazy cord changes in the oddest of places. His technique is subtle, delicate and precise. His jam at the end of Siberian is memorizing.

Overall a tight performance with some of the greatest Yes material from their catalog.

Oh, the other albums I would play to all the time were Tormato and GFTO. We got two out of three so far, next year perhaps.
