This isn't the lineup I envisioned I would celebrate this milestone with, that's for sure. The classic lineup will never be again, but the band documented here put on a really great show. The show included four songs I had never seen Yes perform live before, and two more that I hadn't seen in 12 and 14 years. This was also a memorable show becayse this is the first time in nearly 11 years of recording thatI used a different set of microphones. The Church Audio CA11's definitely have a different color than the SP-CMC-2's that I used to record over 100 shows. Maybe it's actually less color, but the mids aren't as harsh. I'm not sure they handled the low frequencies any better than the SP-CMC-2's, but some of that may be the battery box. There were logistical reasons why I didn't use the UBB box I bought with the microphones, but plan to use it next time. I think the recording sounds pretty nice. The acoustics are always great at the Oakdale...I just wish I can the say the same about the fans. There's a lot of background chatter. Fortunately, these microphones are more directional my old ones, and the chatter is not nearly as annoying as it was in person. If you're just going to sit a chat with your buddy all night, then go to a bar or something. I want to hear the band! Artwork is included in the torrent. The photos are from the actual show. PLEASE DO NOT USE AS A SOURCE FOR A MATRIX. Please share this recording in unaltered lossless quality. If you need to remaster, or something, let me know, and I can provide the undedited raw master (without EQ/volume tweaks) for you to use. -- MP August 2016 |
