Yes was the headiner of course, and the 3rd of three bands to play. The gimmick this time around, is one song from each of the first ten Yes studio albums, played sequentially. I've seen a lot of flack (not FLAC) on the internet about a "safe setlist", but man... I remember a time that Survival, South Side Of The Sky, Going For The One, Don't Kill The Whale, Machine Messiah and Madrigal in the same set was just a pipe dream! I really have no complaints about the setlist. With the three band format, they're not going to have time to play "Gates Of Delirium" anyway. This tour features Steve Howe's son Dylan, "helping out" on drums. If you are wondering what the breakdown of who plays what is, both drummers are on the stage for Survial, Time And A Word, And You And I, Going For The One, Don't Kill The Whale, Machine Messiah, and the encore songs. Dylan plays by himself on Yours Is No Disgrace and South Side Of The Sky. He's definitely a different type of drummer than Alan White, as the songs sounded quite different when compared to recent live versions. Alan played by himself on Soon. On the songs that featured both drummers on the stage at the same time, most of the time Dylan was augmenting Alan with percussion parts, with the exception of And You And I where Alan would play the climatic parts and Dylan the rest of the song, and Don't Kill The Whale where they arranged it in such a way to feature both drummers. As I mentioned with my other recording of this show, the acoustics at this theater aren't great. I ran this Blue Mikey setup as a backup due to a technical issue I had last time out (I was running a backup recording that time too, so I didn't miss anything). I'm not a huge fan of the Blue Mikey, or any recording done with internal microphones. But when that's all you have, it's better than not being able to capture it at all. Even though my main setup worked fine, I am pleasantly surprised at how well this Blue Mikey one came out. I think it sounds pretty nice. Artwork is included in the torrent. The photos are from the actual show. PLEASE DO NOT USE AS A SOURCE FOR A MATRIX. Please share this recording in unaltered lossless quality. If you need to remaster, or something, let me know, and I can provide the undedited raw master (without EQ/volume tweaks) for you to use. -- MP August 2017 |
