For the first time since the Japanese leg of Yes' Union tour in March 1992, Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, and Rick Wakeman launched a 2016/2016 US and European tour together.
This bootleg’s title Perpetual Change is in honor of the rather eclectic set-list of era spanning Yes music chosen for the tour. Prior to this show, I re-listened to Union, 90125, Big Generator, and Talk for a refresher of the Trevor Rabin era of Yes. I was rather surprised that the show's songs went all of the way back to The Yes Album.
The show was 8pm Tuesday evening, October 4, 2016 at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida. If you are not familiar with the venue, it sits right in the middle of the very crowded Universal CityWalk entertainment hotspot.
The Hard Rock Live packs a lot of people into a relatively small space with seating made up of narrow folding chairs. Not much room between rows, and people all snuggle up next to each other. Luckily, the crowd was tremendously encouraging and loved the performance.
Some of this recording suffered a bit because of how I set up my recorder and the tightly packed audience. The three people directly behind me talked excitedly throughout the show and sang along when they felt they knew the words. This is the loudest fan noise for any recording I've ever attempted. Some of the music is muffled in spots as I moved the recorder and it was often blocked.
Jon Anderson's voice sounded great. He had tremendous energy and had tremendous stage presence. He was wearing oversized Mickey Mouse hands as he came on to the stage. Both Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman were great. There were some minor first show technical issues and missed cues, but otherwise an adept and powerful performance. Lee Pomeroy and Louis Molino III did a fine job rounding out the band.
For the show, I recorded everything on a TASCAM DR-05 to SD card using 24-bit WAV at 44.1k.
The cutting, converting to FLAC and EQ-ing was done by Remy with Adobe Audition CC 2015. Processing including: increasing all frequency levels, especially the highest frequencies; increasing the volume for all tracks 3dB.
