I had a perfect taping seat, right in line with the PA, dead in line. However, that didn't help the recording since the sound was so low the entire gig and pure MUD to start. Its a shame really. I should have turned my levels up but I've done that before and a little adjustment really moves it alot so I errored on the side of caution this time. I'm not sure it would have helped that much since the PA here was really totally junk. It sounds like I was in the back row of the upper deck but I was 16 rows back and in the kill zone, dead in line with the PA. Whoever provided the PA should be shot. Or the sound man. Kill them both, I don't care, I was so irratated!!! The house system seemed big enough but...dam it was bad. I had a much worse - off angle seat - a year ago in Pgh, and that show sounds twice as good. I had to use a lot of hard limit and ampflication in post to get this to a level that is even close to reasonable. A bit of EQ as well. It's much improved, but still a disappointment based upon my location. The mics actually picked up more than I heard that night and I'm telling you I was in one of the best seats for sound. I'll be seeing them in Cleveland in September and its at the Hard Rock casino, the PA better be good (assuming I take my gear and can get it in, which these days, with metal detectors everywhere, is starting to cramp my style). Even if I don't take my gear, IT BETTER BE GOOD. From the pics of the venue, looks like they have a house PA which should be new and good. It actually sounds decent on headphones in Winamp with some additional preamp bump and bass boost...noodle with it... Just checked the website and they are streaming OoaLH LIVE, probably from the upcoming release (Live CD and DVD from March 2017) coming out in Aug/Sept this year, and it sounds great. That will make up for it all frankly. It's the original setlist from the first tour but no worries. Looking forward to that. Now that everyone is sufficently scared off...check the samples before moving on... Now on to the performance...a relatively older crowd, which is understandable, some younger children of the Elders...I was 48 and one of the young ones...enjoy it while we can, so many of my favorite bands are old (YES) or retiring (RUSH) or not performing at a level that I would enjoy seeing (TULL). This version of YES is still pretty good but its always been a crap shoot with the sound in ANY venue they play...I've had good and bad with this band...it's just what they do. It's NEVER too loud. I thought the performance was very good and much tigher than last year even with the sound issues. Rabin was light years better. Jon sounds pretty good considering but they should be really amplifying his voice more. The sound did get louder as the show went on but his voice then started to get a little buried, they didn't increase it with the rest of the sound. Rick was on fire as usual and the keys are really upfront in the mix. A really nice version of AYAI. Finally a tune from TALK!!! Still a bit rough but great hearing I Am Waiting. And South Side is great no matter what. There are no fades in the tracks. I suggest starting Disc 2 with Track 09 if burning to CDr. Repost if you like, but please, keep info and file set intact. Please don't Matrix this show without checking with me, but I've not seen any other sources for this date and don't expect any so that is probably MOOT. UPPED July 2018 by ninjadave. |
