This never-before-heard Yes show comes from my friend Craig in Houston who taped a couple nice concerts in 1972 and never got around to sharing them. Just recently, though, he agreed to send them to me and graciously gave me permission to share them with other fans and collectors. The first was a Gentle Giant show (aleady shared here) and the second was by Yes. Since Yes was my first musical love, I was thrilled to get this and now I'm presenting it to you. So thank you, Craig!
This concert was only the second stop on the band's Close To the Edge tour and therefore, it was also only Alan White's second gig with them on drums. As the new guy, he does reasonably well, though the band as a whole does have a few early tour difficulties (man, Rick, that mellotron can really go out of tune, can't it?) They are not yet playing the side one title track of the new album, but the other two cuts are here, plus many of the expected classic tunes from those days. Opening on this evening was the J. Geils Band.
At the time of recording, Craig was just a high school kid with inexpensive equipment, so the sound quality here is not stellar. There are a few wobbly spots and maybe a little cut here and there. On the other hand, it's plenty listenable and certainly gives me a lot of pleasure. I've heard better and I've heard worse. I've done nothing at all to the files I was sent except for an overall volume adjustment and the addition of track markers. I'll provide a couple samples for you.
original wave file sent to me --> track markers added with Audacity --> converted to flac 8 with Trader's Little Helper --> md5 created with Trader's Little Helper
Enjoy the show and thanks again, Craig.
