This caused distortion on the master tape which still exists in the remaster. The taper tended to overcompensate for the high levels by turning the record level down too far, then back up to a reasonable level. These abrupt changes have been smoothed out in this remaster. Additionally, the tape ran fast and the pitch was therefore too high. This has been corrected, too, along with hiss and click reduction. Equalization was applied to remove hum and some annoying frequencies which resonated in the concert hall, and to give a more natural overall sound. 1.01 Roundabout (8.20) 1.02 I've Seen All Good People (8.04) 1.03 Mood For A Day (2.49) 1.04 The Clap (3.46) 1.05 Twenty-minute Tap Dance (2.54) 1.06 Long Distance Runaround (3.40) 1.07 The Fish (9.14) 1.08 Heart Of The Sunrise (11.08) 1.09 Wakeman Solo (7.21) 1.10 Perpetual Change (8.18) Drum solo missing by tape flip 1.11 Yours Is No Disgrace (13.20) Tracks: Roundabout I've Seen All Good People Mood for a Day Clap 20-Minute Tap Dance * Long Distance Runaround The Fish Heart of the Sunrise ** Rick Wakeman Perpetual Change *** Yours Is No Disgrace * Apparently the band's organ either broke down or did not arrived at the concert hall. Rather than stop the show for twenty minutes and wait for the instrument to arrive, Jon called for Long Distance Runaround and The Fish instead of Heart of the Sunrise - but not before he had already given his lengthy introduction to the latter. ** Jon again introduces Heart of the Sunrise, determined to play this important song from the "new album" (Fragile) in spite of the still-missing organ. Who are those additional voices? And is that a dog barking while the band tunes up? Wakeman fills with piano where we usually hear the organ in the introduction to Heart of the Sunrise. *** The tape runs out during the middle section of Perpetual Change. The recording picks up again during the wrap-up of the song. Apparently the entire drum solo was missed by the taper. Since some type of edit would be required to put the two pieces of the song together without the middle section, I cross-faded the two fragments in a style similar to the studio version of the song, in which the two Yes bands play against each other on opposite stereo channels. |
