Exhibition celebrates Kidderminster's famous Frank Freeman Dancing Club
28th February 2018
THE famous Frank Freeman Dancing Club is being celebrated with an exhibition of photos.
Frank Freeman’s Dancing Club hosted some of the biggest rock acts of the 1960s, including Fleetwood Mac, Fairport Convention and Captain Beefheart.
Local photographer Colin Hill has put together a collection of photos he took during the club’s heyday, which are being displayed at St Georges Hall in Bewdley until March 19.
He said: “The Frank Freeman Dancing Club was a Kidderminster intuition for over 40 years.
“Whether you just wanted to learn dance or have a children’s party Frank’s was the place to go.
“In the late sixties the Dancing Club in Mill Street became a Mecca for the prog-rock scene, with Frank bringing groups such as Yes and Fleetwood Mac to Kidderminster.
“I was lucky enough to be able to photograph some of the events at the Mill Street Club.
“The Exhibition in Bewdley St Georges Hall is a record of this.”
The exhibition shows some of the famous groups that performed at the Mill Street Club in Kidderminster and also contains pictures from a Halloween party in 1976 and pictures of Frank and Wyn Freeman at the 40th anniversary of the Dancing Club.
Colin is also looked for a permanent home for his images from the Dancing Club.
