Sophomore that I was (emphasis on the last part) I wasn't familiar with Yes until the concert that night. However, two of my girlfriends and I did have dinner with the band at the University Inn before they played. Few people were there and they asked us to sit with them. They were cute, friendly and had accents so why not?

I foundry remember them playing in the fall and only knew them by one of their hits, “Roundabout.” Lad Dunton put on a light show for the event. We focused a spotlight on a piece of slightly warped Mylar plastic that rotated on a turntable. The reflected light hit the screen with a mesmerizing worm-like shape that undulated. I was impressed by the lightning fast runs by the keyboard player. The sound mix worked perfectly for that natural sinkhole amphitheater. That truly was a concert to remember.

Joey Costa...saw your post about the YES concert in 71. You mentioned "Hot City" and that brought back memories!. My friends and I at Stetson and DeLand were big fans.

YES in the pit was during the school year 1971, in the fall oct. or nov.It was a cool, clear night.YES had contacted me to borrow HOT CITIES Hammond [David NOrtons]. WE could not reach him, That led to Larry Cullies Hammond,Rick played it that night.

My older brother went to Stetson, and he was at this show. He wasn't a huge YES fan but I was, and years later when we were talking one day he brought up the memories of seeing YES early in their careers at Stetson, and he described them playing down in this pit -- and he remembers the drummer (BB) and the Bass player (CS) being exceptionally good.

Wow, 36 years ago! This was absolutely the most fun concert I've ever gone to! The "pit" was a sand sink-hole in a wooded section of the Stetson campus, forming a natural ampitheater. A wooden stage was set up in the floor of the pit and the audience lounged on blankets and leaned against the few trees growing with in the pit. Most of us weren't familiar with Yes or even with this new syle of rock called "progressive". Needless to say, we were all blown away by the virtuosity (and to the purple micro-dot and mushrooms which were really popular at the time). There was something really special going on that night. Most attending had no idea what to expect and after the first song we were totally mesmerized. For the next few months all you could here coming out of dorm room and car windows was the Yes Album.

I have to add a unoffical outdoor concert that Yes put on at Stetson University, a private college, which is in Deland Fl {20mi. west of Daytona}. At the time a couple friends told me about the show, unfortunately after the fact. It had to have been a day or two before the Orlando show, since they had just been in New Orleans on the 4th. They were the only act there, so it was not an offical tour show supporting Jethro Tull. All reports were that they were very well received.
