This was the first ever time I'd seen the band...lots of cushions on the floor and a couple of hundred people. Incredible set (as ever) but the support band were @egypt' who were pretty nifty and played a great finale entitled 'King & Country'
The 'Big Apple' was the alternate name given to the old Regent Dance Hall in Queens Road, Brighton. It was located above a cinema. Four days after Yes played there on this tour, the Rolling Stones took the stage (10 March 1971). As a concert venue it opened in the 1950s, with the Syd Dean jazz band being among the regular performers.
This was Yes's second concert in Brighton. They first played Brighton College on 31 June 1969. A proposed gig on 26 December 1970, also at the Big Apple, was cancelled.
I first saw the band in Brighton on 11 December 1980 during the Drama tour, then again at The Dome (21 April 1998 - 'Open Your Eyes' tour) and at the Brighton Centre once more on 1 December 2001 ('Yessymphonic').
That completes the catalogue of Yes's appearances so far in the city-by-the-sea.
