your_host Agreed. Those photos were definitely not from this tour; they are from the late 1974 tour (date unknown). I've removed them from this page and put them on the Relayer tour page. Brad Baker I am inclined to agree with Mike P. on the accuracy of the photos. Even though I was not there you can tell that they are not from the '75 summer tour or the '76 tour. If it were the summer of 75, you would see the barnacle stage set over Alan's drum kit but the shell is there instead. If it were the '76 tour you would see a different back drop which was red white and blue and kind of looked like a giant butterfly spread out all along the back. The summer '75 tour had a red white and green backdrop with what looked like a tree in the middle. The backdrop in the picture is black with two white areas that was used in '74 and I believe early '75 on the UK dates, as shown on the QPR video. R North These photos are definitely the Relayer Tour as Moraz's setup is stage right. His setup was stage left for the 1976 Tour. Geoff Dunn Regarding the photos, I agree with the comments posted (they look like '75 to me). We shall await comment from the man who shared the pics with us, R. Glover -- isn't he the bassist with Deep Purple? He does say that his memory is a little smokey from those days! Bob Kosturko The photos posted here are indeed from the '75 Relayer Tour, not the '76 Solos tour. Compare them to Wendy Vig's excellent pics of the 06/25/75 Daly City, CA show. Jon is wearing the same outfit in those pics; a gauzy shirt and pants with vines embroidered up the side. D. A. Payne If Mike Parsons [just below] is a jerk, then so am I. Mike - you can find my own post on exactly the same issue further down. It bugged me too and I don't think anyone can fault us for sticking up for accuracy. Anyhow, I wasn't there either but bet it was yet another fantastic concert from what may have been Yes' best tour ever. Would that we had actual photos of it, more photos from the '76 tour in general, and more high quality audience recordings. Mike Parsons Okay, Im really not a jerk or anything, but I was just looking at these pics from the show and noticed something wrong. The stage they were using at this gig, according to the pics, was actually from the fall '74 American leg. Plus Jon is wearing one of his old bell-sleeve shirts from that period. Even though I wasn't alive then, nor did I have the chance to attend a YES gig back in the 70's (Im only 24), I have seen enough pics to do a comparison, and I am certain these pics are NOT from the 1976 tour. If I sound arrogant or like a jerk, I deeply apologize. That was not my intent. R Glover note to G H...... I have all my ticket stubs from the period, with the names of the opening acts written on the stub, usually as the show was happening. I have the P-D band as the only opener at this show. But, I also have a stub for a Black Sabbath show at Freedom Hall on Dec. 6 '75, with Manfred Mann [and Grey Ghost] as the openers. I was and am a MMann fan, so I am sure I would have noted them on the stub - and I think that is the only time, with Sabbath, that I ever saw MMann! My memory is certainly a little smokey from those days, but my notes are pretty acurate!! Hope this helps! G. Hartley I attended the J.C. Show and I am almost certain Manfred Mann opened that evening. Could they have been a late substitution or is my memory gone? D. A. Payne I actually missed Yes' 1976 tour completely - didn't even discover them until the following summer. Of all things completely beyond my control at any point in space/time, it's among the most agonizing to contemplate. As such I rabidly seek and consume anything remaining of Yes '76 - recordings, memories of the fortunate, and of course images. This is also true of other Yes tours, particularly with Pat Moraz. I've seen enough still shots from all three Relayer-era years that while certainly not anywhere near Johnson City on 5/31/76 I had to post something about photos associated with it here - are they not in fact from late 1974? Mark Pierson We had just had our class of '76 graduation in Harlan, Kentucky, a town famous for coal-mining and moonshine that is about 1 1/2 hours from Johnson City. Six of us piled in my friend's yellow Gremlin, and headed over the mountains for the concert. It was festival seating, so we stood in front of Steve Howe. I was the biggest Yes fan in the group, and our black friend Cargo probably didn't know any of the music. But it was a great show. They did "The Remembering", and Jon had these big poster size sheets at his feet with the words. I don't think he looked at them once. During "Your Move" they had a pretty neat laser show, and my football buddy was emulating "Bloop", the monkey-looking creature from "Lost in Space", as put his hands in the air and slowly did 360's going "Bloop Bloop". Standing in front of Steve Howe was the highlight, and he didn't disappoint. It's the only time I've had a chance to stand at the very front of the stage for a Yes concert. It was also probably the smallest crowd of any Yes concert I've seen. |
