I remember the microphone snafoo. I also remember when Jon was supposed to start singing the opening lyrics, his moc wasn't working so Chris jumped in and they played the first part as am instrumental, then picked back up again. I also remember one of the pods moving and shining a light on some guy in the front who was evidently under the influence of something, but he was digging it.
And I believe the opening act was the Pousette Dart Band.
A couple of things stand out in my memory about this show.
The venue (the Van Braun Civic Center) was brand new at the time. Several of us drove up from Birmingham to see the show. Walking up to the doors we were greeted by people handing out printed notices advising that there was to be no smoking (of anything) in the new complex.
When the show was starting, the curtain went up and took with it Jon's microphone. It was actually kind of funny to see the curtain lower back down and a roadie run out to remove the microphone so the curtain could go back up.
NO SMOKING!!! They meant it, too! At some point gestapo Rocket-City police were down front literally banging heads of offenders, Jon actually stopped singing to ask someone if they were alright. They did start playing again, but it was something of an off night for the band. Bad vibes!
As I recall Moraz Solo sort of sequed into Anderson Harp solo sort of sequed into Wonderous Stories.
This show was at the infamous Von Braun Civic Center. It was a long time ago, and I cannot recall who the backup band was. It was an "off night" in a podunk town, so there was no set or fancy costume changes. I don't remember much about the selection of songs, except that at one point Jon announced they were going to play a tune "from the next album", that tune being "Wonderous Stories" as performed by Patrick Moraz! Being a rocker at heart, I was not tremendously impressed by it, as it came off as a rather sleepy tune.
