Yestival '94 was held at Red Lion Hotel in Glendale, California on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24, 1994.
alas.... it was not the drugs. these guys truly are amazing. even if you're sober. after seeing this show, i was convinced that rick wakeman and steve howe were way over-rated. they ARE phenomenal musicians. however, they are hardly team players. the "90125 yes" as it is known, was a real tight lineup of musicians who really cared about what they were playing. and the results spoke for themselves. i have been a yes fan since the 70's, and have seen musicians come and go in this band. ALL of which have contributed in their own unique way to the "YES" vision. but this is a tough act to follow. they were flawless. i also feel "And you and i" to have really reached it's full potential played by this line-up, especially on this very night.
Most of the people I spoke to after the second show agreed that the second night was the best; I surmise that this was due to the fact that the gear was already set up so no opening night mishaps, as well as the fact that most of the band live in LA and were 'at home'.
I recall the second night during the opening 5/4 instrumental [Endless Dream] I was thinking to myself, this sounds like nothing else around, this sounds like...YES. Along with 'Hearts' this song is one of the most lyrical, powerful, and moving compositions this version of Yes has ever produced. It was absolutely wonderful.
